Not really sold on the stats: Cosmic Anomaly but dragon, with a weaker body and a discover effect attached to it
Spice Lord and self-proclaimed Meme Master.
Seems powerful to me, if you are looking to control the board and get mroe value this card is really good, dragon mage has been a thing as well in early RoS so it might be back, mage has some cheap spells to control the board.
Underwhelming when you look it side by side with the hunter Primordial Explorer. Costs one more to trade poisonous for +2 spell damage? Feels like mage got shafted.
A puzzle box? What does it say? ... Yogi-Saffron something... sure, let's open it, what is the worst that could happen?
Geesh the stats are terrible.
If you break it down you're paying 2 mana for +2 spell damage and discover a dragon. That's not a bad deal on paper, it's just a bit of an unfortunate combination of benefits that don't really add up. If you compare it to Azure Drake, the card this is clearly a nod to, the Drake is a better proactive threat because it'll probably kill whatever runs into it. Azure Explorer, on the other hand, might represent a greater threat if left unchecked, but is a lot easier for any 3-drop to value trade into. Meanwhile, at 4 mana the card is just too expensive to feasibly combine with cheaper AoE.
As for Arena, I could see the card work if you can snatch up shooting star and arcane explosions. Otherwise, again, the bad stats completely negate the +2 spell damage and it becomes a huge tempo loss.
Cosmic Anomaly
You are trading 2 Attack for a Dragon discovery.
The Dragon is better, Value-wise, even moreso in a Dragon list. Anomaly has better Tempo.
Seems pretty good - and i love the art!
So looking forward to play Dragon Mage :)
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
If you combine it with, say, a Shooting Star, you get some board control, a minion and a discover for 5 mana. Only thing I do not understand is how getting your spell books eaten improves their power, although maybe that is the dragon way to do it :)
That body is so terrible that I'm suspect. That said, evolved kobold was much worse and saw fringe competitive play in Freeze Mage. So there may be a place for this little guy.
horrible stats, but you can get all those legendary dragons you don't have enough dust to make...
Well, i guess you wont play this for the battlecry but for the spell damage
Never netdeck, craft Whizbang instead!
This will probably find some space in Cyclone Mage where you're churning tons of cheap, low dmg spells. Beyond that though I can't see this being overly impactful.
Out of all the dragon explorers so far showed, this is the only one I believe it will see play in high tier decks. This is essentially an azure drake for control decks. even in midrange decks this can be good, due to the high quality of mage dragons (Yes, I know class cards no longer have higher priority in discover, but mage cards still only appear in mage discovers).
Not a fan, mostly because of its crappy statline. Still, Spell Damage +2 is valued by some decks, and discovering a Dragon is perfectly reasonable in most situations.
Like Azure drake - dragon synergies, get a card, spell damage. The body is weak but otherwise OK
-=alfi=-
Could be a nice card, nothing that would make a great impact on the game. However, discovering more Malygoses could be great. Definitely a contender for the cutest card of the expansion, I love it!
This almost has the power level of Azure Drake and I like it.
This has potential, but I'm not sold (11/21/2019) on there being enough to make it into any decks. If class bias was still in effect on discover though, I could see this being the new frightened flunky.
Im not so sure about this card .. so you get some value, but the spell damage is for a more "agressive" type of deck .. so why do you need value?
I'm sorry for my bad english :)
Even body is a bit weak, expansion itself makes this card better. Also it can discover itself so there is an infinite dragonling lies here. :)
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
Spell Damage Mage isn't really a great archetype, and I doubt this card will fix that. It's just so weakly stat'ed. The effect is strong though, but I still doubt it if this will see play.
It can be an okay turn 5 with a card like shooting star, but why would you run shooting star in the first place? I don't think this is a good card, but it will probably be a commonly played card for the dragon synergies.
I think most of the explorer's (Emerald, Primordial, And the unknown paladin on) will be played because they are dragons. But this card is different in that it will only be worth it if you are also able to combo it off with another spell on the turn it is played. Taunt, or Poisonous are different because they don't require as much setup. I think so far this is the worst explorer because dragon decks generally don't care about small, damaging spells. Maybe this card has some potential with Malygos's Frostbolt, or Malygos's Missiles. But other than that I don't see it happening.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I love this card. So cute. And I think it will be good in Highlander Mage.
The changes to Discover make this far weaker than it would have been. However it still seems interesting. Anything with multiple points of spell damage is dynamic, and this also has value. If mage wants both of those things this is great, if not it might just be a Malygos support card.
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.
poor stats, cool art
i don´t see a place for this one
Nice card but not too overpowered. The discover effect can give massive value. Plus, it can be used for some spells combos.
I don't think weak bodied Spellpower minions are that good.
Spellpower Mage just doesn't seem to really work. Maybe some weird Small Spell big Dragon deck comes around, but I don't belive it.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
I'm sure they tested it, but at first glace this card seems very underpowered. Low stats means that the +2 Spell damage isn't that abuseable. Discovering Dragons is nice, but seeing we're getting a lot of new ones in this expansion, this card probably won't see play.
Nice with Spell damage +2 but it's probably too weak to see much play. Easily removed but if you really want to discover dragons you might use it.
Cosmic anomaly is so much better! And it was played only in aggro secret mage... This dragon is weak, but has a sweet art
The Dragon-Synergy is the only thing that this Card has going for it.
But maybe Mages will playit just so they can play multiple Malygeese?

Gives you another card, along with having spell damage that could end up being a bit scary if you’re getting low on HP. Probably gonna see some play
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
You're not cute, Cosmic Anomaly, and you're being Wild'd. Sorry.
Interesting card, but nothing more than this. Believe will be an arena choice for the value generation.
Cutest card of the set. +2 Spell damage might come in handy, same with the battlecry but it seems very low tempo at a 4 2/3 statline
Meh, you probably put it in Dragon a Mage, but you’re not really happy about it unless they miraculously get Spell Damage to be worth something.
This one is hungry for .. knowledge! ^^
Edit : I don't feel as funny anymore, just checked the flavor text and it so similar that it just redundant
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Fills the niche of Messanger Raven I guess. Will definitely see play in any Dragon deck, because discovering a Dragon is pretty good
This ain't no place for a hero
Spell damage is nice but the card seems a bit slow..unless you turn 4 RNG this one and get a Malygos, Aspect of Magic for turn 5..seems a bit highroll though..
A strange combination, but both effects are strong.
This works well in a spell damage deck replacing or accompanying Cosmic Anomaly. Or you can use this in a dragon deck creating spells with this, Malygos, Aspect of Magic and Firetree Witchdoctor while also creating a dragon to enable your other dragon synergies.
More dragons? Yes please!
With its stats, you'd probably have to play it on a turn where you can combo it and take advantage of +2 Spell Damage immediately. That limits its ceiling - that, and the fact that it's 4 Mana. I'm skeptical.
Stats wise is obviously bad, but effect wise is really strong. Discovering a dragon (New Malygos) and the spell damage buff is a plus side to its 2/3 body.
Pretty cool value card, gonna put it in my Control Mage for sure.
I dont buy this card, cosmic Anomaly is just better overall, for 4 mana those stats are deplorable, you are just going to use that spell damage that turn
People always sleep on how powerful +2 spell damage truly is, the card doesn't even need to go into a dragon specific deck to get value either.
I feel this is a very powerful card, great value and synergies and will work nicely in highlander, control and any variation of dragon decks.
Very good, quite balanced. I like this, also dragons that discover dragons can be OP
I don't like it at all, but maybe a highlander dragon mage deck will run this card just to have a number of dragons to activate the "dragon in hand matter" synergy consistently; it still can discover Malygos or Kalecgos so if you have 4 mana to spare isn't the worst thing to play.
A bit too overpriced, maybe if cost and mana damage were -1 both, this could have been a thing.
A balanced option for some kind of dragon mage. Hard to predict the real power level of the card right now. A decent 4 drop for arena.
will be played in highlander and dragon mage builds, i think that warrants a 5* rating? it's not a huge downside in stats for the discover.
Depends on what you want to do, if you want to drop your opponent's life as soon as possible the Cosmic Anomaly is better.
4 mana are a lot, but the +2 spell power is a strong effect and also he generate value.
Probably it's will see some play.
I love the idea, of having both spell damage and a useful battlecry. And what cute art!
This card bundles enough useful effects that it could easily see play in Dragon Mage, but isn't necessarily a critical part of the deck.
The art looks cute, borderline playable
Spell damage on a nice body and good extra effect in mage with the other spell slingers with expac its gonna be crazy
Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
This is a nice card for Dragon Mage. The +2 spell damage are nice, but paying 4 mana for a 2/3 body is a huge tempo loss. In an aggro meta this card might be to slow, but in a slower meta this card will definitely see play.
Spell Damage +2 is really spooky
The cute card of the set for sure, but Idk if its very strong. There's already a spell damage +2 in mage with a much better stat line for the same costs, so this cards viability is heavily weighed on the dragon tag + discover.
Definitely worth running in any Dragon Mage deck, not only for helping keep Dragons activated but also because of new cards like Arcane Breath (easy to play the same turn as playing Azure Explorer) or Rolling Fireball (played on curve the following turn).
Jaina is best waifu. Always.
I like it, a 3-in-1 card. I always liked trying spell damage in mage, so I'm really excited about this guy. Reminds me a bit of azure drake.
Most adorable card in the expansion I would argue.
Not the the most powerful though, but still pretty neat I think. Getting to discover a dragon seems really helpful in a lot of situations and it having +2 spell damage forces the enemy to deal with it aswell. Despite the underwhelming stats I would say this is a better Cosmic Anomaly
One of the cutest card this set, but on the weak side for all 4 explorer cards due to poor stats.
Discovering a card it's always good. Maybe the stats are lacking but with the +2 spell damage it acts like a taunt. You don't want Mage with +2 plus damage.
The stats are a bit awkward, but it's the Spell Damage that counts (and Discover).
Can't see it being played except in Dragon Highlander mage.
More expensive than the other 'explorer' cards in other classes, so I think you'd really have to justify that +2 spell damage. There are some decent dragons you could discover, though, in Malygos, Aspect of Magic and Cobalt Spellkin. Imagine discovering Malygos Aspect of Magic and being able to play it straight away next turn.
Statwise it looks terrible and at cost of 4 mana it's hard to properly utilize that spell power. Only upside is fact that it's a dragon that discovers another dragon, which can be enough for this card to find its way into dragon decks. (Also do you remember Evolved Kobold? We've come a long way since then.)
Fun and interactive game.
