I'm in the same boat. If you drop it on Turn 3, it's a 2/5 body which has the potential to generate a 5/5 or two if unanswered--that's not bad! However, you basically need to run a Sorcerer's Apprentice / Mana Cyclone deck to make use of that threat, and those decks just too inconsistent to compete. I would say its better than "fringe experimentation", but that's probably just the semantics between how you and I label off-meta decks. Long story short: it will win some games but not enough to affect the meta.
You got it man
to be fair, that was in a class without weapon tutors, whereas this gets searched by Sandbinder, which is a huge plus.
Priest's setup was also much more difficult and required very specific spells you wouldn't run in any other deck, whereas Mage gets better draw and more flexible low cost spellls.
The real issue is the same as Flamewaker Mage right now. You build an entire deck around a singlle combo that needs to win you the game on the spot or else your opponent will just come back and kill you.
Well, I used to play some Miracle Priest in order to abuse Dragon Soul, and Northshire Cleric + Wild Pyromancer + Circle of Healing was as broken as it is now.
Since I was writing that post while being a little busy, I forgot to include the Flamewaker point that you were clever enough to highlight.
Anyways, I still think that this card will be a 5/5 for funny shenanigans, but a 2/5 for the constructed environment.
Statline is good, dunno if this will survive a round if drop on T3. But don't count this out yet, we still has yet to see the rares and epics.
That card is like dragon soul + a strong body, except that Mage has enough cheap spells and a strong refill er with mana cyclone. In my opinion the card is at least a 4star card.
Mage really needed some good cards, but I don't think this is it. My prediction is that it will see little to no play. 2/5
I don't think it's that strong; you can get one or two 5/5s with it, but it will be immediately removed afterwards. It gives a board presence, but one good turn won' save your whole game and Flamewaker is rotating back to the Wild, so there's that.
Oh hi dragon soul.
This card will give me nightmares, I'm pretty dang sure this is really good to play. you can pull this by Sandbinder too. I can smell the shenanigans from this card alone
