How does the DETAIN mechanic work exactly?

How does this card work exactly?
Does the detained card retain buffs or damage for example, or is it like the recall mechanic and it reverts to its original state?
Does the detained card get placed back to its original location (bench or battlefield) once the capturing unit leaves play? I'm assuming it gets placed back in the hand if the bench or battlefield is full, and burned if the hand is full.

The detained minion, once free, will be reset to it's original stats (buffs and damage will be canceled) and will be placed as the last of its owner board.
If the board is already full when it's released, than it'll be destroyed.
"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the world, and loses his own soul?"
I also want to add that when a card is returned to play from Detain it is considered a resummon.
I incidentally wiped 2 minions off my board when I returned a Crimson Awakener from its detainee
edit: I want to clarify that cards like Heart of the Fluft that have the keyword 'Play' will not repeat their effects. As that keyword can only be achieved when playing that card from your hand.
I also want to add that if you use Purify on the unit that detained an enemy. You can destroy that enemy unit.
Also copying the unit that detained another unit with Shady CharacterCardID or NameBADCARDNAME also has a detained unit but interestingly, Just one of them gives the detained minion back or it was just a bug that I have experienced.

Very interesting interaction...will take note for future reference, ty for the heads up.
Oh btw how does Mistwraith work? The text says "grant other allied Mistwraiths EVERYWHERE +1/+0"
Does this still apply to a captured Mistwraith? I'm assuming it won't, but I'm not too sure
Well, lets say you play Mistwraith
any and all Mistwraiths are now 2-1
Your opponent then also plays a Mistwraith, they are now both 3-1
You detain your opponents mistwraith into your own mistwraith
He then uses Vile Feast on your mistwraith freeing his detained mistwraith, this counts as summoning the creature, so his mistwraith is now a 4-1
You then respond to that by playing mistwraith, both of your mistwraiths are now 5-1
I haven't played with mistwraith that much but I'm pretty sure this is how this works
Very interesting indeed. I'd be inclined to argue that this is the intended outcome. It's not 100% logical, but presumably, the idea behind it is that no matter how many times the captor is copied, there's still only 1 captive in existence.
