This + 3 damage AOE = board clear + 12/12
You have to make sure your opponent has the board space and can't transform the Warders. That aside, enjoy your Deathwing!
“Golly bob howdy, I am undead!” - Wretched Tiller
Might even be played in secret mage because of flame ward
It's not hard to remove/trade off 3 1/3s. Maybe there's a Tempo or Zoo Deck that can awaken this Guy on t4?
You lose your Stuff, but I think sacrificing your 1 and 2 Drops for a huge MFer early is well worth it!

that sounds pretty nuts. It's basically a 4-mana Deathwing that only requires you to kill 3 1/3s.
Warlock loves this with Hellfire
Demon Hunter has Blade Dance multiple ways to proc this fast (especially with the weapon that allows multi attack).
Shaman can combo this with the Lurker from Below.
Probably one of the better Dormant minions.
Does have the downside of your opponent also being able to control when it goes off meaning you can't just plop this and just build your board, because then it will backfire horribly.
Still probably one of the strongest cards in the set as long as you have a deck that supports it.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Taking the probably incorrect approach of subtracting the stats you give to your opponent, this comes out at a 4 mana 9/3. I'm sure that's the wrong way to look at it, but either way I'm not convinced by this card.
This post is discussing the wild format.
Its either a game breaker or an over-rated one - but I'm leaning on the win-more side
Or is this too big to fail ? Anyway around, that is one that I cannot wait to see the golden animation for!
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
I'm leaning towards bad card. Aggro decks won't run this, why would they lose 9 damage to face in order to summon it? Control decks might, thinking of Warlock in particular to combo with Hellfire, but I would anticipate Token strategies to rise as a counter if it ever became problematic.
Coupled with the fact that if you can transform one of the tokens, you remove a board slot for your opponent, I can't see this being played past the first few weeks.
These type of conditions usually don't work out well. At least it's easier to fulfil than The Darkness so perhaps there is a chance this will see play.
Is this the new pre-nerf Barnes? Have it on curve means opponent has almost no chance of winning against it.
“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” ― George Bernard Shaw
EU Legend: S52 (ZooHeal Lock); S76 (Highlander Hunter);
Except Shadow Word: Death, Execute (assuming you can deal 1 damage) Deadly Shot, Hex, Polymorph, Subdue, Sap and Plague of Flames assuming you have a cheap minion.
Druid is the only one that can't deal with this going active on turn 5.
If you drop it while your opponent has a full board, does it activate immediately? Or becomes dormant forever?
I’d imagine that it’d either be stuck dormant (so Magtheridon himself has a counter for how many warders have been killed), or the warders themselves have a deathrattle along the lines of “if you control no more warders, awaken Magtheridon”
On a completely full board it should probably be stuck dormant though, like how The Darkness is stuck dormant if your opponent has 60 cards in their deck already
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
This card is kind of hard to evaluate. On one end of things, it is 4 mana dormant your opponent gets a gang of 1/3s. On the other hand, this could easily be a 2 card combo to get a boardclear + a 12/12 on turn 7/8. The payoff is just so huge, but you can't play the card by itself. You need to either already have a board capable of dealing 9 damage and your opponent has to have at most 4 minions (in which case you may not want to clear the board), or you could play a spell like Helfire or Hagathas Scheme to clear the board. I think the card has potential, but only time will tell how good he is.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
The best thing about Magtheridon is not his stats but that he clears the board when you fulfill the dormancy condition. A 12/12 may look imposing, but there's plenty of ways around turn 4-5 to remove or delay his attack.
The classes most reasonable to expect to run this card is dhunter, rogue, hunter, and warrior because a) they have weapons, dhunter in especially, so destroying 1/3s will be less mana consuming, b) rogue and hunter has no board clear, so it makes sense for them to go the extra mile for it, c) control warrior. There's plenty of AoE but one extra wouldn't hurt. And strictly speaking, its a better AoE than what warrior has.
And I've been seeing how many are expecting warlock to go head first for this card. I personally dont think its viable. Hellfire is already a reasonable AoE in of itself. Using it to trigger an even bigger AoE doesnt make any sense, and takes up two cards. Meaning, if you're forced to use your Hellfires you might be stuck with a card that might as well be a Twisting Nether to begin with. Also, Dark Skies cant be expected to remove the three 1/3 warders. Finally, warlock already has access to the best conditional AoE in Plague of Flames which is infinitely better in my opinion.
Tinkmaster Overspark says hello. You don't even need hard removal if you can transform or bounce one of your wardens.
I think this one will see a lot of experimentation, become hard-countered, and then crawl back into oblivion.
This card looks incredibly strong. Magtheridon might be a day-1 craft for a lot of players.
This card is a lot better than The Darkness, but playing this card versus an aggressive deck could also risky if you don't have a way to deal with the wardens. Definitely a high-risk, high-revard card that will produce a lot of salt.
Great for most controll decks. Wonder how the interaction will go with ress cards.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Wild: is this the tech card we needed against Darkest Hour?
Does the board clear activate AFTER DH summons its minions?
I suddenly realized this is a solid tech card vs ressurect Priest (F U very much) and then I liked Big Mag a lot more.
Warlock looks good, 2 cards for a twisting nether + 12/12
Demon Hunter looks ok since you don't make a board.
But on shaman you are wasting 2 cards to play deathwing without discarding.
'' Came from another world to invade Outland and bend it to his will… only to be overthrown by an elf from another world who invaded Outland and bent it to his will. '' Flavorful
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Flashy effect but hard to use.. saw footage of trying to play this it's not that great... also can't be played if opponent has 5 or more minions..
too many ifs for this card to be good.
Might get surprised though.
Definitely a card that will produce many trolden videos. I used to love The Darkness just from the design perspective, but ofc that card was never good. This is basically the same design but better! :D
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
this is actually an interesting card..getting rid of the 1/3 is easy and it gives you an instant board clear and a BIG BOY..seems like a playable card to me
You want to use his effect to clear big boards, but if your opponent has more than 4 minions it will simply not work at all. I see this card being put in a lot of decks on day 1, and being taken out of all of them on day 2.
I kind of hate all this ugly bit demons. Am I the only one who's just offput by this expansion's theme?
Interesting card. It can be 12/12 with board clear or a new The Darkness if one of the 1/3 is sapped, evolved or removed in some way. I don't know how to valutate this card...
It's hard to say what impact this will have. I'm not sold on Dormant ever working, but this one just might. It's hard to just write off a 4 mana 12/12.
This is an interesting card, big minion with strong stats that should be easier to accomplish than The Darkness
I'm sure there's a list out there that will allow you to use this guy consistently
I agree: it's a flashy card, to be sure, but I just don't think it's going to work out in practice.
Nice flavor with Grommash Hellscream btw. It needs to have +10 health and here it is. :)
Oh wait ! I sucked. It was Mannoroth. :(
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
Love the mechanic, whether it's hard or not. The animation and the flavor win me over.
The value of this card comes in your ability to fulfill its condition without destroying the board in the first place.
Since Magtheridon itself destroys the board, then playing this and a board clear is less... useful... than just playing a board clear. Unless you specifically want the 12/12 body. But as we've seen with playing Deathwing, a 12/12 body isn't really worth it if you destroy your board or lose your win condition in the process...
Theorycrafters are already salivating over this card and easy ways to enable it. And I'm sure that those are coming, especially in Wild and as time goes on. But for now, it's looking pretty overkill.
Too easy to just kill a singular big minion in the early game I’d say, probably won’t see play
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
Seems very strong in theory. Perhaps Demon Hunter with Immolation Aura and Bloodmage Thalnos can make it work consistently.
