Eternal CCG

Anyone who's looking for a collectible card game with very different mechanics from Hearthstone, tons of interaction between players (a lot like MtGA, but with better visuals), feel free to check out Eternal! It's available on Steam, android, and ios (I think).

It's my favorite game, has at least 6 different game modes, extremely friendly F2P system (they throw all kinds of free things at you for the first couple of weeks). Give it a try, if you like! If you use my code, you'll automatically be friended to me, and I can help you get started if I'm online.

[My code is all used up. If anyone else is enjoying Eternal, and they want me to put their friend code in here, I can do that.]

EDIT: For new players, here are some excellent ideas for budget decks:

Option #1 is by far the fastest way to just start hitting faces, and you can basically make that deck day 1, as mentioned in the video about it. If you go for something from option #2, there are 5 decks listed there; ignore deck 4 and deck 5 (deck 4 got nerfed after it was posted, and deck 5 is a more expensive version of option #1 above).

  • You know what? I used to play this a few years ago and I kinda dropped out. I couldn't afford Hearthstone and this. But seeing as I have a near complete Hearthstone collection now, I might come back into it. Do the old decks still work? I'm thinking Drone Decks and Pantsless Rakano... 🤔

    • Rakano aggro is still an effective budget deck ... as you get higher in the ladder ranks, you'd need a fair number of rares, but you can do it without legendaries. Token decks aren't a huge thing these days, but Grenadin drone still sees play in some decks.

          If you buy anything, you would buy campaigns (adventures) which give guaranteed cards, some of which are insanely powerful.           But the most important campaign, IMO, is called "Into Shadow." This gives you several of the most powerful legendary units currently in the game: Vara, Vengeance Seeker; Azindel, Revealed; and Telut, Queen's Hand. All three of these legendaries are major inclusions in a variety of different decks.

          After Into Shadow, probably "Homecoming" is the next most important campaign, followed by "Dead Reckoning."

          The campaigns each cost 25k gold, or 1k gems (currency). I stress again: Campaigns are the most important things to get for building a base from which to construct good decks. Quite a few cards from several different campaigns are critical pieces of most highly-competitive decks.

          I don't really recommend buying specific card packs - you mostly just want to craft anything that you are trying to get (with such a huge card pool, and needing 4 copies of cards for decks, you rarely get close to your deck needs by opening packs). But you do get 100 shiftstone (dust) automatically with each pack, so that helps a little bit toward crafting. As is often the case with card games, the most recent set is probably the best place to start; otherwise maybe the original expac (The Empty Throne) probably is good as well. Many cards from that original set are still used, especially certain legendaries.

          Lastly, here's a quick list I threw together (mostly borrowed from another list that was posted on the site, but its a VERY standard list for Rakano Aggro; doesn't really belong to anyone).             25k gold for a campaing is something you can easily or hardly get as a ftp only player? I have spent much money on Hearthstone, and before that Yugioh, and I promise to never do it again :P (except maybe some team fortress hat)

            • 25k gold can be gotten in a couple weeks or so ... might be faster in the early days of playing. You get minimum 50 gold each win, either casual or ranked. Every third win in ranked is worth 200-250. Rewards have a 10% chance to upgrade to the next tier higher of reward. Daily quests reward about 500 gold.

              Rewards summarized:

              Bronze chest - 50-60 gold, 1 random common card

              Silver chest - 200-250 gold, 1 random uncommon card

              Gold chest - 400-500 gold, 1 full card pack

              Diamond chest - 1800-2000 gold, 1 card pack, 1 shiny card (rarity varies)

              Daily quest will either be two silver chests, or one gold chest. In ranked, your first two wins are 1 bronze chest each, third win is silver (but once you get three silver this way, the third win becomes two bronze). In casual, it's just 1 bronze chest per win (two bronze chest every third win).

              Oh! And your first win every day (ranked or casual) is worth one pack, straight up, from the most recent set. Each pack contains one rare, three uncommons, and 8 commons. There is about a 10% chance that the rare is a legendary instead of a rare. There is no epic quality card, and the pack always contains 3 uncommons, 8 commons; the 12th card is either rare or legendary. No pity timer on legendaries, but the 10% chance definitely bears out over time. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cards (and you can have 4 of each legendary, just like you can have 4 of any card), and the deck size is 75 cards. So, they are very generous, but the game structure kind of demands it.

              Lastly, during your first couple of weeks playing, they will throw entire decks at you for free, which they call "theme decks." You get all the cards in the deck for free in that case, mostly uncommons and commons, but always a few rares as well. You also get starter cards for completing the introductory campaign. So, you have playable decks immediately, but they are not exactly what you'd call competitive :). However, some of those cards are important cards in competitive decks, so they are not useless.

              Edit: You can target a few select legendaries by purchasing theme decks as well. They have theme decks in the store for 3k gold, some of which have a single legendary card in them. So, 3k for one legendary and a few rares ... along with all the commons and uncommons in the deck as well. It's not a bad idea as a new player to buy one of two of those, but I'm not sure which ones are best to buy.

      My problem is that I don't have enough time to learn both, let alone play them.  Eternal seems to churn out a lot of complex mechanics on a frequent basis.   My account has 80k dust that I can't begin to figure out what deck to make.  Haven't logged in in months.

      Eternal weapons work much better than in HS.  You can't go face if they have a minion.  The durability of the weapon is it's armor so there aren't any limits to how many swings, just until you kill enough minions that the weapon is destroyed.  If you 'armor up' the weapon gains durability too, but the weapon also takes any damage the hero takes.

      I also love the sidebar.  Each class has a 'market' card/s.  When you put one in your deck, you select 5 class cards to be your 'market'.  When you play the market minion, you pick a card in your hand to put in the market and then choose a card from the market.  It's a smart sidebar because you pay a tempo cost (market minions are statted lower) to use a sidebar vs not having one.

      Now I know that people are going to think I have a screw loose, but HS needs a 'poison hero' as Eternal has.  When your hero has poison, any attack or spell cast has poisonous.  It also has an exodia-style 'poisonous to heroes' build-around

  • I would like to give this a try but being F2P  on both Hearthstone and MTG:A, I don't think I would have time to play Eternal. But otherwise it sounds fun.

  • I downloaded this on Steam yesterday and still haven't gotten around to trying it. I definitely will give it a shot, so thanks for any suggestions anyone has about it. Trading card games can get expensive if you decide to buy things, but free-to-play is always an option if it isn't going to be a main game.
