What creature is this?

Submitted 5 years ago by

Indeed very off-topic but came up to this creature on the street in front of the house. Never seen this before.
It's kinda huge too if you compare to the leave behind it. Anyone has any idea what scary creature this is?

  • seems like a lobster to me.. is it alive?

I mean he is missing his tail but those are some kind of bugs so maybe they can survive for some time without a few parts ( I know a cockroach can survive up to 2 weeks without it's head!)

probably escaped from a nearby restaurant..?

  • Yea i think its kinda lobster-crab type of creature. From the photo it seems like it is walking sideways, too..Invalid Deck ID

  • it's alive yes lol

There are restaurants around yes but they don't have anything with lobster there.
It's definitely from the same family that's for sure, indeed the tail is different. And it has two "legs"  on the sides where lobsters do have 3. The head is kinda weird too.

  • I'd call an animal organisation, if I were you. My father found a bat on his balcony two years ago and he wanted it to be in some place safe. He called the animal organisation in our city and he was advised to bring the bat there.

So, if you contact the experts in your country, they could tell you what to do with this "lobster". They might even decide to go to your place and pick it up for themselves.

What?! How does one "bring a bat" anywhere. How do you catch it? You just have a spare bird cage lying around or what? How would you get him in? They should come for it, no? Damn i would have been creeped the hell out.

I just asked my father about the bat and he told me, that it was from these species:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuhl%27s_pipistrelle

    https://www.eurobats.org/about_eurobats/protected_bat_species/pipistrellus_kuhlii

As you can see, it has a size smaller than the human hand and that's how my father brought it to those people (he used gloves though, since bats can be carrier of diseases). The reason why it didn't fly away was because it was dehydrated and malnourished, since it was winter back then. We found it lying ill near my father's plants.

    Exactly my thought sinti XD

And what did you do with it after all, Daowen ? Did you catch it or leave it as it is?

  • I'm pretty sure that's a crayfish, although I'm not sure what species exactly. I would guess it's the eastern Asian/Eastern North American variant.

I have actually encountered a whole bunch of these in a lake that we had to sample to assess the chemical and ecological water quality. It's an invasive species here in the Netherlands and these crayfish almost entirely wiped out the fish population in the lake, so we had ourselves a nice barbeque with all of the crayfish that we sampled. Unfortunately I also got pinched quite a bunch of times.

  • I'd say it's a Beast. Could be a hyper-realistic Mech, though.

Checked back a little bit but couldn't find it anywhere anymore.
Note: I wouldn't have picked it up though  :p

  • Yes, this is ordinary cancer

  • I think this is a common cancer. I just do not understand why it is covered with a moss . Is there a lake or river not far from you?

  • I think it's a carb with some leave stick to it. If you give a bath to carbs, then it will be easy to recognise
