A rating reset would mean the people with dozens of hours of experience would be playing against brand new people.

The nice thing about an MMR system is after a week or two everyone will be at their appropriate rating. In fact the new people will climb to the correct rating faster because they will be able to get points from the people who are already playing if they are better players than them.

So no rating reset.
