The fabled 200 in 20!

I did it!! :D Wooohoooo! So happy about it, please allow me to brag a little bit.

Over the past 3 to 4 weeks I managed to get 202 wins in 20 consecutive arena runs, which is honestly something I'd never even dream of doing. I've been infinite for quite some time now, but this is really something else for me. Now, first let me be clear that I violated pretty much all rules that Amaz originally set out for the 100 in 10 challenge. For example, I instapicked rogue every time she was offered, and, as you can see, that happened a lot :p The Valeera carry was unbelievably real. Furthermore, unless one of the Blizzard devs is kind enough to look at my stats of the past month (Woett #2930 EU, just in case ;)) and confirm it, I have no way of proving that this indeed happened, as I don't stream or anything (yet!). But that's okay, it's first and foremost a personal achiement that I really wanted to share with you guys :) By the way, for anyone interested, you can view my public profile on HA here.

Soo, on to 300 in 30 now, I guess :p?

EDIT: Omg, verified! Thank you so much /u/IksarHS and /u/CM_Zeriyah :D

Verified! This is a really REALLY impressive accomplishment. Congratulations!

it doesn't actually have to be in the UI though. i remember the leaderboard for warcraft 3 / TFT was/is on a blizzard website and that just worked perfectly.

I agree. As Ben has mentioned it's an idea we like and are looking into. There are some unanswered questions involved in terms of what determines who the best arena player is and what is the right cadence to send out this information. Whether or not it should be a for fun posting or part of a larger system. Stuff like that. The conversations have been fairly recent but it's something we're actively discussing.

So is that where [[Flamewreathed Faceless]] comes from?

Faceless is a strong (although not strongest) arena card in a class that had lackluster arena win rates pre-expansion.

Would you care to elaborate on this? Variance in how a card performs or how a player performs or how a class performs? I'm really curious what skill consists of in Hearthstone and how it might manifest differently in Arena vs Constructed.

It's probably what most people would expect. High synergy combo decks like Freeze Mage, Miracle Rogue, Old Patron Warrior... All those decks had extreme differences in win rate depending on the group of people that played them.

Somehow, I don't think Hafu was talking about top 10%, more like top 1% at widest. I suspect the avg of Arena players reading this post is at least top 20% :)

For the record, what's the cutoff win rate for top 10% and top 1% (say, year to date, 50 run min)?

I should have been more specific, but yes we can (and do) look at top 1% for both constructed and arena to see what that experience is like.

Ya he said he would bring it up to the team (hafu got super excited then he said no promises). Unfortunately, as a developer, that is the exact response you publicly give if you have no intention of doing it ever.

I disagree with this. We don't have any problem saying an idea is not something we're currently looking into. If you hear from a Hearthstone source that we like an idea and will look into possibilities of making it happen, you should read that as truth even if it doesn't eventually end up working out.

Is there a chance you guys could make some of the stats public? Like, an arena leaderboard.

It's less about resources and more about finding a reasonable place in-client to do this. We are very careful about bloating the UI with features that aren't a necessity to the game. I'm sure it's possible to do this in a clean and concise way, but I think publishing the information to the web would accomplish a lot of the same goals without cluttering the client.

I remember couple of months ago a guy made a thread here saying he beat 100in10 off-stream. But there was no response from the blues then, so..Must be fun for them to read all kinds of claims of arena feats and if needed being able to see who is how much exaggerating :P

It really was just by chance I was checking out the statistics for last month when I saw this post. Coming online to confirm a claim shouldn't really be expected, but in this case it was fun to confirm because it was so fresh in our minds.

First of all congrats to Woett! What an insane performance. I'm honored to see one of the HearthArena users pull this off. @IkarHS, thanks for confirming, it's an awesome to hear you actually found out before this reddit post. I guess Blizzard has an internal 100 in 10 leaderboard?

Out of curiosity, I just did some more "Big Brother is watching" on his runs. I pulled all Woett's picks from the database to see how much he picked against HearthArena's advice during these 20 runs, and to calculate the average tierscore of his decks. Here are some interestering facts:

    • Out of the 600 picks Woett went 92.23% with HearthArena's advice.
    • That's only 2.3 pick / run he off-picked.
    • These off-picks had an average of 6 points (on a 1-150 scale) difference with the card he picked.
    • Average tierscore of the cards he picked was 65.68.
    • Which is only +0.94 above an average for a deck.
    • His Rogue average was 10.38 out of 13 runs.

Again big props to Woett! I wonder if this is the first time someone achieved this?

I couldn't say, it really was just by chance I was looking at the stats that day for April. I won't disclose the name, but the next most impressive April statistics I saw were 446 wins over 54 runs.

Sure, but you're looking at the average player and not at the top I suppose. I think there is a huge gap in balance when you're playing optimally.

The data I typically look at has dropdowns for top 10%, 20%, 30%, and so on. We look at them all to see how players perform at all skill levels. While there are some differences, for arena its generally pretty similar. Constructed has the highest variance between skill levels though.

if you guys are looking so closely at the stats, shouldn't you also be noticing how lopsided class balance is in arena? Rogue/Mage/Paladin have had a stranglehold on it since GvG (or for Mage, since the beta), and this guy's stats prove that you can only achieve a winrate like that by playing exclusively those classes.

Is blizzard ever going to balance arena, perhaps by changing the rarity of cards only in arena or tweaking the draft bonus for good cards in classes that suck? That would go a long way towards fixing things without having to change the numbers on any cards. There are commons available to Rogue and Paladin that should be rares or epics, and vice versa with a lot of epics for other classes. One example: make Shield Slam a common with a 25% draft bonus and Warrior suddenly is competitive in Arena.

Balance isn't nearly as lopsided as you might think. We look at statistics and try to include strong commons in the weaker or less synergistic classes every set. Nothing ever comes close to touching 60% win rate for example.

How do you just randomly stumble across such a thing? Or do you look up the biggest arena win streaks on a regular basis? :o

Just happened to be checking it out today.

I was actually looking at your 200 in 20 after work today and thinking how insane that was. Weird I come to reddit and here you are! Lots of impressive arena players around the world last month but your run topped them all.... Congrats!
