You can make legend with <50% win rate, it will just take a while.

EDIT: Im really being downvoted? Do people not understand statistics? Look here.

I imagine the volume of games it would take to accomplish this is absurdly unrealistic given the month long timetables.

Even though I'm complete garbage at Hearthstone, I feel like I have a good idea of what Blizzard's design philosophy is and what they would want from a hire. That's more valuable to Team 5 than someone who is really good at winning in card games.

Yeah "good idea of what Blizzard's design philosophy " is necessary. But it's not sufficient. You need to be good enough at the game to apply what you know about their design philosphy to actual game design.

Everybody can learn their design philosophy from a book in a day.

Whoa that sounds like a good book.
