Will arena games count towards the 500 game limit?

No, only wins gained in Ranked Play.

I believe the fb page said that beta games already played with count

Games played before this feature hits will not count - they will only begin counting after the feature has been implemented.

Bummer. Are there any planned rewards of this sort for those of us who exclusively play arena?

To be fair, Arena does have rewards for playing and performing well, while Ranked Play does not. Card backs and Golden Heroes are a good start. :)
