Out of the Loop: Mike Donais Hunter joke

Only started playing 6-7 weeks ago, but I keep seeing these jokes appear on this subreddit (even more so with cards like Crushing Walls and now To My Side!). It usually goes something like "Nah, Hunter is balanced, how else is Mike Donais supposed to beat Hunter decks at rank 25!"

I looked him up and see that he's a game designer for Hearthstone, but I was wondering what the context is, and if there's a origin quote/video, someone could provide me with it as I can't seem to find it on my own. Thanks!

Unfortunately people misquote me a lot and each time the quote changes a bit to match their needs.

The reality is that hunter does a lot better than people would like to admit on ladder. If you look at the community created Data repear report for example it is a 49.7% winrate deck at legend rank. Our internal data showed it higher than that at rank 15-20.

Hunter was a very strong class for a very long time and when it was strong it pushed in a pretty unfun direction - early pressure followed by face damage. So we are trying out some new directions for hunter and we are also thinking about how to make the strategies a bit more complex. This won't happen right away but over time we can give hunter some new options that are not pure face.
