Vicious Syndicate Presents: Meta Polarity and its Impact on Hearthstone

The Vicious Syndicate Team has published an article on polarization, the extent to which matchups favor one strategy over the other. Polarization has often been brought up as a factor that impacts the experience and enjoyment of the game. It can used to either describe the meta as a whole, or specific deck behavior.

In this article, we present metrics showing both Meta Polarity and Deck Polarity. We compare Meta Polarity across different metagames, identify decks with high Deck Polarity values, and attempt to pinpoint high polarity enablers: mechanics that push for polarized matchups.

    It isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's like chocolate. Sweet in moderation, but can make you feel sick if you eat too much of it.

    I am glad you made a few comments explaining that polarized does not mean bad. Your article reads quite differently though. You should probably discuss the pros and cons of it so that players don't all jump on the zero polarity bandwagon.

    A good version of this article talks about why it is good and why it is bad, objectively.

    Thank you for showing how once again VS is misusing their data (which isn't even representative of anything) to force an article to get reddit traffic, as polarization is a hot topic right now.

    Real data shows nothing the article mentioned is actually happening. I especially agree with your point about people hating DK/jade idol etc. Who does VS think they are to claim the opinion of the entire playerbase with closing statements like their article.

    This sub should stop treating VS as some holy authority. They are more often than not wrong.

    To be clear this was not my intention. It's extremely unlikely that when we were both individually looking at this data we snapshotted the same timeframe, rank, or pool of players. To have data mismatch to some degree is expected, it just made me want to follow up with our data folks sometime this week to make sure I didn't misunderstand something.
