So - there's an idea going around that we should band together and buy a controlling share of GW instead of buying minis! It's not the dumbest idea I've heard, because COVID opinions set a high bar there, but it's...pretty bad. Here's why. https://t.co/ESs69kLRiM

Because there's already Reddit's favorite "Apes Strong Together" meme out there - there is a difference between buying a low stock with short pressure and buying a currently thriving company. In the same way ramming your brothers RC car and a Porche demolition derby are different

We will ignore for the moment that institutional shareholders, index funds, etc. exist. We will also ignore that hostile takeovers (which is what this would be) have to pay a premium over the current trading price. You can't actually ignore these, but here we are.

There are currently 31.78 million shares of GW stock outstanding. You'd need 16.43 million of them to have something approaching a controlling interest. At the market's close the price is $155. That's a cool $2.546 billion.

From the GW investor report, their sales in 2021 were 353 million pounds - about 490 million dollars. Again, we're assuming the price wouldn't rise dramatically with billions of dollars of buy orders (spoiler: it would).

That means angry GW twitter fans would have to spend 5.2 *times more* money than everyone who buys toy soldiers does right now. That's the floor, not the ceiling. Good luck with that.
