"Whatever it takes to bring in new players" sounds like a sentence out of a cult's playbook. Is Magic in such dire need of new players, or Hasbro in need of new consumers? Or is there a bias in our content creator bubble towards maximizing potential eyeballs? Random thought.

@coL_noxious Anecdotal, but my circle of card gamer friends are basically all lapsed magic players. These cross-IP cards get us talking and excited about magic way more than any new set could.

@IksarHS I'm sure it does. That's the intent. I loved HS's way of taking inspiration from settings & taking them out for a thematic spin (League of the Explorers, 1 night in Kara, etc), but I don't feel the same about adding Han Solo, Gollum or Gideon hero portraits to Hearthstone.

@coL_noxious I don’t like this thing is much different than this is a bad idea. Curious if you think it’s bad for the game overall

@IksarHS Keep in mind I'm not saying "people hate this shit". I'm just not sure it's something worth pursuing, creatively. If I thought the primary goal of design was "how much hype can we generate that'll convert into sales?", I would view it as a resounding success.

@coL_noxious Yeah, worth considering what is the North Star metric. I doubt that metric is Q3 2021 hype/revenue. If the metric is long term population of MTG players, i think probably positive. Definitely debatable.
