🛑 WARNING: SPORTS TWEET 🛑 Shohei Ohtani’s season is maybe the most impressive baseball performance in my lifetime. Would you rather have Bonds at the height of his career or Shohei this season? Not sure. I bet this guy’s next contract is going to be half a billion.

For non sportsball people: Shohei Ohtani is arguably the best hitter in baseball and also a top 10-15 pitcher. It would be like if Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass, kicked the extra point, then lined up on defense to play middle linebacker at a best-in-league level.

@IksarHS I can easily say I would take Ohtani’s versus any of Bonds’. The main reason is Ohtani is having a more impactful year.

@Shaneojak WAR is a stat baseball tracks for wins above replacement player. Interestingly, Ohtani as a hitter and pitcher combined is still very slightly below Bonds' best year.

@IksarHS @Shaneojak Shohei is amazing but Bonds was literally intentionally walked with the BASES LOADED because of the fear he put into pitchers. 2004 he was intentionally walked 120 times. 120! Only 93 other players have amassed that in a CAREER.

@DondeHS @IksarHS I think Bonds is the most fearful hitter of all time. I am not going to walked off my position that I would take Ohtani’s season versus Bonds at his peak. I was in my early 20’s during Bonds best years. I watched him. For me, if you are able to be elite at 2 different things

@DondeHS @IksarHS in baseball that will rank above Bonds best seasons.

@Shaneojak @DondeHS The stat I like to use to determine the best player is WAR. Unsurprisingly, Shohei's combined WAR is 11.6 and Bonds best season was 11.7, so very close. No one has been over 11 since 2002.

@IksarHS WAR and Sabermetrics heavily lean Bonds However, those stats don't calculate the value of a roster spot and have historically undervalued utility players in general Even with that, it's still Bonds, but he did it roided up Ohtani is having the greatest non roid modern season

@mcmarinersHS WAR when I checked have Bonds best season (2002) at 11.7 and Ohtani combined WAR as 11.6. Not exactly heavily leaning.

@IksarHS Predictive WAR has him finishing the season around a 9 WAR. Which is incredibly to begin with, but likely still undervalued as it doesnt appropriately calculate the value of Utility players
