HGC Europe :: Team Dignitas vs Misfits :: Discussion Thread
Talk about a barn burner. Traditionally one of the best European performers in Team Dignitas vs. Misfits (formerly mYinstanity) to kick off the festivities. Out of 27 battlegrounds played against each other since March 2016 however, Misfits historically sits on a 55%-win rate in the matchup. Additionally, Team Dignitas has seen roster changes since then, while Misfits has seen none. In fact, it’s been over a year now since Lyubomir "Splendour" Kozlovski and Dennis "HasuObs" Schneider joined the team, giving Misfits the longest running five-player roster currently in the HGC.
The last time these two played was in the grand finals of the Nexus Games where Misfits took the series 4-1. They were also neck and neck at Gamescom, where Misfits lost out in an incredibly close five-game series, before falling apart against Fnatic in the BlizzCon tiebreaker. The story of Misfits should be one of redemption and validation this year.
There is also the addition of Kenn Øster "Zaelia" Rasmussen to Team Dignitas that cannot be overlooked. Zaelia was the backbone of former remix team ExcelenteEleccion and CrowingCocks before it. With these rosters, mostly comprised of former Na’Vi players, Zaelia earned himself some LAN experience having competed at both DreamHack Valencia and GamesCom. While ExcelenteEleccion didn’t qualify for HGC, Team Dignitas, having recently parted ways with long-time tank player Lawrence "Atheroangel" Harper saw potential in Zaelia. This weekend’s outing, kicking off the HGC, will be his very first public performance with his new teammates, who have proven themselves to be world class. No pressure.
All esports aside, Misfits as an organization has recently received an investment from the NBA’s Miami Heat. Months before that, Dignitas received the same treatment from the Philadelphia 76ers. The last time the 76ers played the Heat, Philadelphia came out on top. What does this mean in terms of this matchup? Nothing? Everything?
