About the new Rune to IP conversion - Spoiler: It's very bad, less than 25% overall

Riot has announced that every rune will give you back 100 IP (With preaseason IP being Blue Essences), Quints giving 300IP & Runepages 1500IP.

Already this conversion is really bad - it’s not even 40% - which was what the survey some weeks ago stated. Though the 40% wasn’t set in stone (as with every survey by Riot), it was a value that people seemed to agree with. Besides not refunding RP for runepages (and a ward skin), the IP being refunded use another formula, a very bad one at that, as the 40% is nowhere near being upheld.

  • A normal rune costs 410IP, so 100IP back would be 24% of the actual cost.

  • But even normal runes can cost double - for 820IP you will still get back only 100IP meaning only 12% of the value.

  • Quints cost 1025IP & you get 300IP back, which at least is better than for normal runes, but doesn’t reach 30% anyway. You’re only refunded 29% of what you spent per Quint

  • But once again, certain Quints cost double the normal amount, 2050IP, with 14.5% of that being refunded - 300IP.

  • Rune Pages cost 6300IP & 1500IP are refunded - about 24%. However I do not know how they’ll handle 2 for 1 sales.

I’ve spent almost 250k IP on runes - 246505 to be exact - and I am supposed to be refunded 56300.

Might sound like a lot, but this is just about 23% of the IP i spent.

With the IP Sale coming up this annoys me - because I lost out on IP I could’ve used for stuff thats limited instead of having bought runes that I’d never use (like death time spent) for which I get almost nothing back. I simply expected better of Riot - they do not need IP to make money - and the new rune system certainly is a big step forward, but to then treat veterans that way… is what I would’ve expected by other companies maybe..

I hope Riot takes this feedback to heart - and doesn’t start not taking veterans into considerations for new players, but takes both, old & new into consideration.

TL;DR: The IP you get per rune is very low, not even reaching 25% most of the time. Especially runes that cost double the amount of normal ones have a very bad conversion. Those who only cost halve the normal amount are mostly trash, so no one bought them anyway. I hope Riot takes this feedback to heart and takes both, old & new players into consideration when designing such systems
