assuming you can answer, how long ago did they start working on the art and how long did it take them to get it ready for production?

They've actually worked with Riot for a long time! You can check out some of the splashes they did for LoL: https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Sixmorevodka_Studio

In terms of the Set 1 art, there's no simple answer there. Their time with us in R&D actually pre-dates Legends of Runeterra, and some of that art made it all the way to Set 1. A lot of the early time was spent on exploring/defining our visual style, and building the muscles to work together. We also had to learn how to incorporate design iteration into how we work.

Katarina was one of the earliest pieces done for us, and it has stood the test of time!

Ahhhh is that why some league tournament somewhere had that image on it? I forgot the exact post but someone noticed that the image for Kat was on some old tournament website or something.

Yep! You connected the dots :) that old Thunderdome project used some of our art without our approval. Which was a bummer for our team when some of the community response was "LoR re-used old LoL art."

    That wasn't the case!

When Design, Narrative, and Art all work together...it's a beautiful thing!

Fun fact: This illustration was sketched by Marko Djurdjević of Six More Vodka in about 30 minutes. He saw the spec, had an idea, went up to his office, and came back down before we even knew what had happened. Bonkers.

SIxMoreVodka has absolutely KILLED IT with this game. I can't sing their praises enough. You guys did a phenomenal job selecting this studio. I hope they'll be more prolific. If I ever come down to LA, I've gotta buy some of those artists a round of drinks.

    Thanks! A few notes

    1) We also can't sing their praises enough. And it wasn't so much a matter of us selecting them as it was us pitching them to select us! A no-brainer from my perspective. 2) They are located in Berlin! But they do come out to LA occasionally :) 3) Stay tuned on the hope for them to be more prolific. They are pushing hard to be able pump out a huge amount of cards for all our new sets. And I'm sure they would tell you their work from Set 1 is old and they've all gotten a lot better since then. Plus we have a lot of amazing artists that you all haven't seen anything from yet!
