So you can drop ranks but not divisions?

Topic. If you make it to Plat/Diamond/Masters you can't drop back a tier right? Like Diamond stays at Diamond?

I ask because though I'm quite Spikey by nature I want to relax once in a while...a mode halfway between VS and Ranked would be perfect but I don't think it exists. I guess the only solution is to play when you are not at a particular tier?
