Turns out I just lost the game because cards with multiple effects targeting different creatures don't tell you which effect is targeting which creature.
If you are the one casting the card, it parses the effects from top to bottom, so the first target you select will be tapped. If it is your opponent's card, the left arrow (coming off the card) is the first effect and the right arrow is the second effect.
That said, this is certainly something that is not as intuitive as we'd like, so we’re working on a better way to convey this.
