Dear Gamers of /r/MagicTCG:
I come bearing bad news, but invite you to a celebration as well. /u/MetalGodz was a frequent contributor to this community as well as my husband for nearly nine years.
Tragically, /u/MetalGodz passed away almost a year ago at only 30 years old. Matt was a veteran who spent nearly three years of his life overseas. On February 24th, 2014, he took his own life.
Apparently, veteran suicide is an outrageous epidemic with 22+ veterans killing themselves every single day. These numbers are from outdated and partial data as not all states report those statistics. The actual number is far greater. Of course, I didn’t learn this until afterwards and it was too late. As the anniversary nears, I wanted to do something positive and for a good cause in Matt’s memory. So, why don’t I get a bunch of people together to do his favorite thing: play Magic.

PROCEEDS - ALL proceeds will go to Active Heroes, an organization dedicated to connecting and helping America’s military families through physical and mental therapy, home repairs and community outreach, financial assistance and community reintegration to halt the triggering points and stress associated with “hard times” that lead to suicide.
PRIZES - Because 100% of the proceeds of the event go to charity, prizes for the event include cards from Matt's personal collection, inked playmats, and TONS OF AWESOME STUFF DONATED BY ALL OF YOU AMAZING REDDITORS FROM ALL OVER. ARTIST COMMISSION
If I were to commission an artist to do some art for me for a soldier token card or fake Magic card in Matt's image using reference photos I already have, is there an artist here on Reddit someone could point me to that might be able to do this in time for me? I was going to do the art but I don't have the time. I would need them to take existing photos and turn him into a Paladin or Barbarian-esque badass. I will pay so I'd want to see an awesome portfolio or some examples of work.OH MY GOD, MAGIC: THE GATHERING ARTIST NOAH BRADLEY IS GOING TO DO THIS FOR ME.

Wow, the "feels" tag here was apt. This is beautiful....I'm so sorry for your loss but so moved by your interaction with the community and with the reactions here. I love how this game can be a medium to bring people together. Take care and best of luck with your event!
