Didn't I read somewhere that with the PWP changes, they invited top players and other members of the community out to WoTC HQ to discuss the changes with them and get input prior to making it public?

You did. The articles I personally saw were from LSV and Trick Jarrett but there might be more out there; I haven't looked.

Who knows why they didn't have a similar meeting for this?

They invited them out to preview the changes so they could prep articles to go live the same day as the announcement, but they weren't solicited for input to change the program.

<p>You did. The articles I personally saw were from <a href="http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/how-i-became-an-archmage-my-thoughts-on-planeswalker-points/">LSV</a> and <a href="http://www.gatheringmagic.com/talking-about-planeswalker-points/">Trick Jarrett</a> but there might be more out there; I haven't looked.</p>
