In every meta there are decks you like and decks you hate. Among the latter there's often that one archetype you just wish didn't exist. Suffer no more, in this post we're taking a look at some stats and finding the single biggest counters to the most popular meta decks.
The data in this post has been provided by HSReplay.net. Data interval of last 7 days was used. All numbers were correct at the time of writing.
Big Shaman
If you're looking to find shelter from all the [Hearthstone Card (Goblin Bombs) Not Found] that Mech Hunters are throwing at you, Big Shaman is your best bet with a 57.5% winrate. The deck is rather expensive though so if you want something cheaper, Murlocs can also get the job done.
Looking for more Big Shamans? I just created the archetype for this post so there's currently none marked as such... but I've seen that at least Cardinal has written a comprehensive guide for you all.
Mech Paladin
The bombs just keep on coming, this time from Bomb Warriors. The relief comes from their brothers-in-Mechs in the form of Mech Paladin. Boasting a whopping 74.2% winrate against them, you really should get the job done. As an additional bonus, it's also the best counter for Midrange Hunter (65.0% winrate).
Want more mechanical madness? Try out these versions of the deck.
Secret Hunter
After its dominance in last weekend's Masters Tour, Cyclone/Conjurer Mage is certainly going to see more play (even outside Legend, where it already is the most popular archetype). Luckily Hunters have a Secret weapon to counter it (with a 68.4% winrate). Secret Hunter should be a decent choice all in all as it has the second best overall winrate of all archetypes (54.9 %).
Trying to unravel the mysteries of going face? Start by leafing through these.
Zoolock
If you're not fond of treants invading your Hearthstone games, you might be interested in knowing that Zoolock is Token Druid's worst nightmare (with a 63.2% winrate). Before you can take on Malfurion and Lunara, you still have one of the hotly contested questions of the current meta to solve: to Rafaam or not to Rafaam...
Planning to tap into the knowledge of the community? I won't be standing on your way.
Mecha'thun Warrior
There's only one big meta baddie left standing anymore, but it ain't no pushover. I guess you've all had the privilege of playing 30 minute matches against Control Warriors, and unless it was a mirror you were likely to lose. No more! Even though it isn't the most optimal meta choice, Mecha'thun Warrior is almost a foolproof way to beat the endless Elysianas, boasting an eye-watering winrate of 82.5% against them.
The era of flesh has ended? *Light-blue explosions everywhere*

Miracle shaman crushes conjurer mages something fierce.
I love articles like this, and I think this should be a weekly report. This is how you keep the game fresh. Constantly reporting the meta and so players can innovate the game. Soon new cards no one uses will start becoming popular to have bold new strategies.
We love you Frostyfeet

Already got my legend with mech paly
I've never lost to mech paladin as bomb warrior, mostly because I spec silences into the deck.
Anyways, I'm trying to figure out the win condition for Mecha'thun. Boomship and hope you have enough armor at that point to kill Mecha'thun with shield slam? If not, hope they don't have a silence?
Boomship to summon malygos and mechathun, inner rage on maly for 6, inner rage on mechathun for 6, whirlwind for 6 to kill them both.
A 6 card combo? How does it fair against other decks cause 6 cards can really eat up hand space especially if you draw a lot of them early on. Plus normal control warrior has issues with burning cards every once in a while, add in an opponent exploiting AoP or hitting a heavy weapon with Ford.
Sure, "counter the meta" articles like this could be published on a monthly basis. Keep them coming!
What's the best deck vs anxiety boss?
Could you please do a similar article, but wild :)
I would love to, but HSReplay doesn't have enough Wild statistics to make a matchup chart or any general archetype statistics, and I don't think there's any other site out there with larger/better stat system than them.
Secret Hunter is the bomb, I'm surprised there aren't many people playing it. I have a 60% win rate with it in 180+ games played, and I have positive win rates against Hunters, Rogues, Warriors (surprisingly) and Mages (currently 21-7 against this class). I must thank all the Bomb/Mech Hunters out there though, it's possible my opponents are game-planning against that archetype so their starting hands almost always suck against me :P
Nice write up, I have enjoyed playing the
Mecha'thun Warrior!
I selfishly wish you wouldn't post these articles lol. I have been playing big shaman for a couple of months now and have enjoyed the somewhat below the radar success.
I do use Big Shaman, but I don't get the Spirit of the Frog inclusion, as it risks Muckmorphers copying that.
A bit expensive, but I use Batterhead (great vs. token druid and murloc shaman) and a second Big Bad Archmage copy.
Very fun deck though. Dust your boring murlocs and tree cards and craft it.
The general idea is that in most cases, you want Frog in your mulligan. Frog provides insane cycle, and helps you fish for much needed cards against Aggro. It's also a soft-Taunt, which needs to be removed. Frog is basically included in almost all Shaman decks, except Murloc, and has been doing incredibly well.
I feel like in order to cycle through your deck you have to kinda throw away a lot of spells.
the only 2 cost spells you have are Ancestral Spirit and Big Bad Voodoo so in order to cycle through them you have to spend them on a totem or frog guy. and also ancestral healing does not have very many good targets before turn 5/6, and having to use it on a totem/frog does not seem like something you would want to do.
it feels silly to throw away your spells just to draw different spells. spirit of the frog is not getting you very much card advantage if you are gaining one card for each one card you cast, and if the first spells are somewhat wasted then what was even the point?
I've only got 3 classes left to max out at 500 wins and I'm torn. Hunter , Druid and Warrior. Hunter is the closest and Warrior has the least but man these desks seem like they'd get the job done.
Great article, thank you!
