Better nerf Irelia! Legends of Runeterra's next expansion, Guardians of the Ancient, releases next week on May 5! Here is everything we know so far:
- 42 new collectible cards are being added to the game.
- 3 new champions to play with; It appears we're getting Malphite, Irelia, and Zilean.
- New boards, guardians, emotes, and card backs featuring the new champions will be released.
- Card reveals will take place every day at 9 AM PDT (12 PM EDT, 18:00 CEST).

Weird they are releasing ZIlean without Ekko,
Seems like we are getting some landmark archtype missing pieces between Targon and Shurima (Taliyah didn't had a good 2nd champion really..)
I am quite sure Zilean is all about predict, and Ekko is the other part of that.. so.. Zilean will probably be underwhelming without the second part.
I was convinced that the two would surely be released at the same time as well but here we are.
As the official blog describes the three units as "each one an invaluable partner to the new champions coming in the expansion", it makes you wonder if Zilean will be about predicting after all as Clockwork Curator doesn't seem to have direct synergy with the mechanic. Or maybe it was just a thematic statement.
One side-effect of getting most of my favorites in the game already is that my general enthusiasm for the new champions isn't as high as it could be :/ I like Irelia decently, but Malphite and Zilean are whatever.
At this point it's Vel'koz or bust for me!
And as a bonus for me, never having played LoL, I have no reason NOT to be excited for new Champs.
Same here! I'm really interested to see what these new champions do.
Of course, it also means that I can enjoy the LoR champs for who they are (or hate them - looking at you, Lee and Fiora), regardless of how truly they capture the LoL counterpart. Prime example - I love playing LeBlanc, and I couldn't care less that her design isn't like LoL. I've never played LoL, so why would I care? I think she's awesome as she is, here in LoR.
I just want Poppy and Galio in this game
It's interesting, they put a lot of focus on Noxus as well, but I doubt we're getting a new Noxian champ.
Of course not, Noxus already got a new champion this expansion, but well be getting more Noxian cards.

So we have Zilean for Shurima, Irelia for Ionia and Malphite for Targon.
I guess.. maphite being in Targon is weird but they are not doing Ixtal (Malphite's actual origin) so it makes sense.

The Vines are coming from the magic of the Field Musicians. Each mini-set has exactly 3 champions so Zyra is definitely not coming

and that boulder is just some detail i think from noxus to be more evil or something
Not talking about Malphite. And that boulder looks anything but evil, more like a neutral face.
Maybe the boulder was a part from a statue from a city that Noxus conquered and using it as ammo to siege others.
Or maybe Swain was like ''I need every boulder to have a face on it to show the might of Noxus ''
