Eight Interesting Yu-Gi-Oh Cards That Deal With 2s, and 2000s, and Maybe 2200s, Too

Today is Twosday! It is the 22nd day of the 2nd month 2022nd year AD, or the 22nd year AYA (After Yu-Gi-Oh! anime). To celebrate this once in a life-time date, we'll take a look at 8 cards that have something to do with the number 2, or at the very least the numbers 200, 2000 and 2200.

This list isn't necessarily a "Top 8', but the cards are put in an order that takes into account how much they have to do with the number 2, as well as how much that number is tied to their identity. We won't take into account the card's power, and will pick them so as to have a large variety of effects. It's also not an exhaustive list, as there are A LOT of cards that mention the number 2 somewhere in their text.

Quick note, because of the way Yu-Gi-Oh cards are, we will ignore the last 2 digits in a a cards ATK/DEF. So if you see stuff like "800 is a power of 2", we know it's not, but just pretend that's an 8. Otherwise none of the values here would be that special, since they all divide by 2.

We’re Leavin’ Together, But Still It’s Farewell

Let's begin this countdown with the Final Countdown! This card asks you to pay the game, and, in return, will instantly win you the game... in 20 turns.

The number (or rather, digit) 2 appears twice in this card, so we're already off to a good start. However, we're looking for as many instances of '2' as possible, and this card barely scratches the surface. And yes, this card is here mostly because it makes for a good starting point for a list.

Let Me Tell You a Stwory

Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights is off to a good start, as it's a Link-2, has the word "Two" in its name, and even the artwork depicts two characters on it. This is a solid showing for what we want to see thematically on this list.

Unfortunately, theme is where the 2s stop. The effect has nothing to do with 2s, and while its attack is 1600, a power of 2, it's not really in the spirit of Twosday. As such, Isolde is low on the list, but it's a good example of the kind of Monsters we're looking for.

Everyfin Is Toadally Awesome!

Toadally Awesome is a Rank 2 Xyz Monster with 2200 ATK that requires 2 Level 2 Aqua Monsters to summon. That's already five 2s! It also has 2 frogs in its artwork for good measure.

Sadly, it suffers from the same issue as Isolde in that, while it has a strong theming, its effect has nothing to do with the number 2. We put it higher than Isolde simply because it has a higher concentration of 2s on it.

Two Heads Are Better Than One

This spot goes to cards that have two heads and can attack twice in a turn. The other contenders are Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon and Twinheaded Beast. However, we're going Cyber Twin Dragon, since it's level 8 and both its Attack and Defense start with a 2. 

Sadly, that's where the 2s stop with this card. It's slightly higher than Toadally Awesome, since its effect actually has to do with 2s and that's more important than having a bunch of 2s in your Rank and Attack, but the gap isn't that large.

Open the Numeron Gates!

We couldn't have this list without mentioning Number 2: Numeron Gate Dve - it's in the name! It's effect also has to do with the number 2, as it doubles the Attack of all other Numeron Gates. Unfortunately, there's not much else going on with this card when it comes to 2s, since it's ATK/DEF and Level are more tied to 1s.

Dve also loses points for the lack of originality. Not only are there other cards that double the attack of Monsters, like Number 39: Utopia Double and Double or Nothing!, but there are 3 more cards that have the exact same effect as Dve: Number 1: Numeron Gate Ekam, Number 3: Numeron Gate Trini, and Number 4: Numeron Gate Catvari. Or maybe it should gain points because there's 4 cards that are basically identical, save for the name and art? Either way, the Numeron Gates in general, and Dve in particular are pretty middle of the road.

Two Tornadoes Trump Three Typhoons

Now we're getting into the good stuff! Twin Twisters has a reference to the number 2 in it's name, it's artwork has 2 tornadoes on it, as well as two Scapegoat tokens, and it destroys 2 Spells/Traps on the field. It's probably as good as you can get!

Heavy Storm Duster has a similar effect, but Twisters has it beat in name and artwork. Frankly, the only reason this isn't higher is because the next spot goes crazy on the twos, and the one after... well, you'll see.

A Level 8 With 8 Times The 2s

Things are about to get crazy! Evil★Twins Ki-sikil & Lil-la is a Rank 8 (power of 2) Monster, that you must summon by Tributing 2 Link Monster, which will then reduce the number of cards your opponent has to 2. It also has 2200 ATK/DEF, as depicts 2 characters in its art. If you count the number of times the digit '2' appears in its card text, including Attack and Defense, you get eight 2s

Oh, but we're not done! The cards depicted in the art, Live☆Twin Ki-sikil and Live☆Twin Lil-la, are Level 2 monsters, each with 2 variations of them, the Level 2 Live☆Twin Ki-sikil Frost and Live☆Twin Lil-la Treat, and the Link-2 Evil★Twin Ki-sikil and Evil★Twin Lil-la. No card in the game likely has this many associations with the number 2, so its fitting that it's the second to last card on this list.

"Wait a minute!", I hear you say. "So what the Shadow Realm is number one?"

Wonder What This Does

Yu-Gi-Oh as a lot of "Draw 2" cards in the game. Cup of Ace and Gold Moon Coin both mention the number 2 in their text twice, and a lot of Pot cards, like Pot of Desires, even have two faces. There's even a card called Pot of Duality, though you only get one card for that.

But we needed to go with he original! Pot of Greed has a very simple effect: you get to draw 2 cards. The name has no mention of the number 2 in it, and the art has nothing to do 2s, unless you count the eyes and nostrils. So why is it so high on this list?

Because of what this card IS! Ask any Yu-Gi-Oh player what's the first card they think of when they hear the number 2, and it'll most likely be this one. The Evil★Twins may have a lot more 2s to two of them, but when thinking of the number 2, there's only 1 Pot of Greed. (actually, there's 0, since Pot of Greed is banned)
