Mysterious Labyrinth Is Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel’s Latest Selection Pack - Runick and Labrynth Added to the Game

Master Duel received its last Selection Pack for 2022, Mysterious Labyrinth. It brings the Runick and Labrynth archetypes into the game, which share a theme of combining video games with mythology for their theming. It also adds support for The Weather, Predaplant, Adventurer, and Lady of Lament decks. Let's take a look!

Runick

The first of the new archetypes added to Master Duel, this is a unique and fun one. Well, for you, not so much for your opponent. The deck forgoes the Battle Phase in order to focus on a mill strategy, with most of their deck consisting of Quick-Play Spells with an effect that banishes the top cards in your opponent's deck, giving you a victory when they can't draw a card. Runick Fountain lets you activate Runick Quick-Play Spells from hand during the opponent's turn, Runick Allure mills a card whenever you play such a spell.

The deck is inspired by Norse mythology, with the Quick-Play Spells being based on Norse runes, while the Extra Deck monsters (summonable with the secondary effect of the spells) being based on Odin's ravens and wolves. The deck also gives a video-game feel, similar to The Elder Scrolls series, with the spells depicting the first-person view of the "player". Basically, you're playing a game where Odin is the main character. 

Labrynth

Our second archetype added to the game, this one focuses on using the Labrynth Traps to trigger various effects on the Archetypal Monsters. It also has a few ways to tutor and set those Traps, and gains beneficial effects from having Traps in the Graveyard.

The deck is inspired by the Deception series of video games, where you defeat your enemies by setting traps for them to fall into. It is also inspired by the myth of Thesseus and the Minotaur, as is made obvious by the name.

The Weather

The Weather Painters get two new cards to play with, with the field spell The Weather Forecast, which allows you search for Weather Spells, as well as more easily summon their Link Monsters, Rainbow and the newly introduced Moonbow.

Predap

Predaplants received the most support this pack (barring the two new archetypes), with 3 new low-rarity Effect Monsters, Bufolicula, Triantis, and Triantis, as well as two new powerful high-rarity Fusion Monsters, Ambulomelides and Starving Venom Predapower Fusion Dragon.

Adventurer

The Adventurer Engine got some new cards in this pack. And by some, we mean, just one. This card really stands out, as there's no other Adventurer cards in the pack to go with it.

Lady of Lament

The very small Lady of Lament archetype receives new cards in this pack, effectively doubling its card count. The only member not present is Lilith, Lady of Lament.

Generic

These cards don't belong to a specific archetype, or, if they do, they can be slotted in any deck that benefits from their effects.
