Blizzard has announced a large patch coming to Heroes of the Storm soon.
What's Coming in Heroes' Next Patch
The patch is currently available on the Public Test Realm and focuses on the following:
- Observer UI enhancements.
- Icon color adjustments for several heroes.
- Cleave and Splash abilities can now reveal areas they are used in.
- Bounce abilities now require targets to be visible.
- Several hero abilities that previously could hit Invulnerable enemies no longer do so.
- Difficulty levels of heroes have been adjusted.
- Over 100 hero bug fixes.
Why is Blizzard Patching Heroes Again?
Heroes of the Storm has received two other patches this year, releasing a micro update in July and several bug fixes in September. The game went into maintenance mode in July 2022, just after the seven-year anniversary of the game, with no new purchases being added to the shop and a focus of bug fixes only for future game updates.
With the recent Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and BlizzCon quickly approaching, it makes us wonder if there's more to it. This update seems to be quite large in scope, though not necessarily outside of the definition of maintenance mode. With Heroes of the Storm hosting characters from across all of Blizzard's titles, it would make sense to see a resurgence of the game to help promote all of Blizzard's IPs. This, along with Xbox's Phil Spencer talking about supporting teams that want to "revisit some of the things that we have and do a full focus on it" gives a bit more of a chance that we could see a Heroes revival.
There's also the topic of Steam, where Blizzard has begun to place its games onto the service starting with Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV. Opening up Heroes to a brand new audience outside of the Battle.net launcher could give it another chance at life.
No official announcements have been made as of publishing regarding the future of Heroes of the Storm, but as someone who played a good chunk of the game and covered it for several years, I might be a little bit biased when I say I'd love to see it return. Blizzard has incredible characters and stories and it was great to see them all come together in a battle arena game.

With all the comments here, the views, the social interaction, it feels like we need to start a Heroes of the Storm community night to try and get a ton of people online at the same time lol.
HotS was one of those games of which I poured hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars. I'd love to see a more active HotS gaming community again.
I've never been a fan of moba games, I might even say I hate them, but even I had some good time in heroes of the storm. It was just plain fun. Hopefully they revive this gem and do a good marketing on it.

My favourite game of all time. I don't expect anything to come from this aside from a Steam release, but there's a part of my soul that still has hope.
Me and a couple of friends would play this almost every night for a few games. Sometimes we didn't even play against other players and just ran comp stomp. Heroes is a great title, it just came out at such an awkward time so it never really took off. Had there of been faster queues and just more content in general, I think it would have done so much better.
Playing League of Legends with my IRL friends helped save me from depression, but Heroes of the Storm was still probably the better game for me, in my opinion. With team-XP it wasn't as dependent on individual success, and the variety of the maps and whatnot made the game feel fresher longer. Couldn't get them into it, though, and I don't like to play these games "alone", so it was eventually uninstalled. It would be neat to see a resurgence of the game; maybe we can get the OOG team to group up! hehe
The no real individual success was a major issue for some people, but I agree, it was a great feature of the game. You all leveled up and got to make this big push together which could at times quickly overwhelm the enemy. It brought it different types of strategies and just required a little bit of different thinking.
I'd rather play Heroes than League of Legends purely from the whole "the games are so much shorter" side of things. Plus, it felt like people weren't complete assholes in Heroes for the most part. Though I will admit, my teammates in League might have been ragers, but they were typically more skilled than your average player in Heroes. If I had a dollar for every Heroes teammate I had that clearly didn't understand the game, I'd be up there with Jeff Bezos.
There's nothing wrong with that either. Heroes attracted a competitive audience on the high end and a very casual audience near the bottom and middle. That's what happens when you have spillover from Blizzard's other titles and people are coming in and playing a MOBA for the first time ever. The most important part is to teach them where possible! League on the other hand, good people are all over the place on the ladder so you'll see good people at the bottom on a regular basis, there's just a reason or two they are not moving on up.
I agree though, I hate playing a MOBA alone. I prefer playing them with a full party or a full party minus one because it gives me a better chance at success.
