Gran Turismo Sport has officially closed off its online servers today.

Gran Turismo Sport was initially released on October 17th 2017, and in the 6 years that have followed it, Polyphony Digital has added an extremely huge amount of content to it in the game's lifespan. But it wouldn't be permanent. Gran Turismo 7 launched on March 4th 2022, and its launch did beg the question of what the fate of Gran Turismo Sport would be. Considering Gran Turismo's track record of closing game servers down very shortly after the next game launches, it is quite impressive how long these servers lasted. Gran Turismo 5 closed its servers on May 30th 2014, only five months after Gran Turismo 6 launched, and the same applies to Gran Turismo 6's servers after Gran Turismo Sport launched. With that in mind, it's fairly unusual, but very welcome change for Gran Turismo Sport to last nearly a full two years after Gran Turismo 7 launched.

After the end of service date, it will no longer be possible to utilise online services such as the Community, Open Lobby, and the Sport mode, nor online features/items such as custom liveries. The offline portions of the game can still be played, including all previously purchased Downloadable Content. For details on features that will still be available after the end of the online services, please refer to the news article released on 29 September below:

We would like to thank the many users of the Gran Turismo Sport online service since its first launch in 2017. From here on, we will continue to further improve the online services for the currently available title 'Gran Turismo 7' on PlayStation®4 system and PlayStation®5 console.

But what of the single-player campaign? After all, just like Gran Turismo 7, you needed an online connection to be able to play the game, even on just the standard campaign. Well, you will be proud to hear that the campaign will still be accessible and you will no longer need an online connection to be able to save the game, which is great news because it means great things for Gran Turismo 7 being preserved many years later. You will still keep all of your cars, your Career Mode progression, and all of the single-player content, but you will not be able to access Sport mode, or use the Discover function to access custom liveries for cars, racing suits, or helmets.
