This reveal season is going to be a bit different since Blizzard made an oops and leaked all the cards in the set early. All the new cards have already been added to our database, which means you can build decks with them, and they will be be visible on our expansion page for The Great Dark Beyond. This also means you can already start to vote and discuss every single card if you wish, which gives us plenty of time to get scores building for an incredible Community Compendium once the reveal season is over.
But, even though all the cards have been leaked, we will be covering the cards in daily recap articles too. Leaked cards will appear on the website as if they were uncollected in your Hearthstone collection manager, so until they show up as their usual self, take their stats and text with care. We don't know if the cards that were accidentally pushed were final; Blizzard has made last minute balance changes before. Doing daily recaps gives everyone a chance to focus their attention to a select few cards together which will make for good targeted discussion and allow everyone to ignore the leaks if they wish. Obviously, it's going to be hard to completely ignore leaks here on the site, but this may help a little bit if you want to be surprised every day.
Also, we are missing tokens across the board, so any cards with tokens are still slightly in the dark.
Today, it's one small step for War, one giant leap for Warrior. Let's take a look at the new cards coming in The Great Dark Beyond that were revealed today, October 16, 2024.

I love weird cards but even I'm confused on Moldara. I don't see it. Maybe it's some future expansion thing but being untyped spell/minion and just Boulderfist Ogre stat line makes it feel like an unfinished card. Could use a battlecry to recast spores or do something for every spore you cast this game, ect. Otherwise just feels like the "tax" Warriors have to pay for getting Druid ramp spells for the rest of the year. Maybe it's kinda meant to be put into a sandwich, The Ryecleaver, but again untyped minion makes that harder. I hate being down on a card. I truly believe not every card has to be good and the weird/bad ones have a place. I just can't even see where Moldara fits. Maybe it's something I have to see in action to get. <shrug>
Warrior looks fun for the rest of the set. Like the Draenei stuff, extra attacks are always exciting. Love tribal stuff too especially setting up future turns. The Dwarf Planet also looks bad but at least it can have some lethal potential. I mean who doesn't want to end their opponent with a planet!
Spore Empress Moldara - Firstly, the spores are mercifully not cast when drawn i.e. you actually have to spend 5 mana to play the spores. Secondly, this card is so crap it defies any and all reasoning. I mean for fuck sake, who the hell would actually put this card into their deck? Immediately on turn 1, make your deck worse, because drawing the spores is basically just an empty draw until turn 5, and then after that its only just okay.
Exarch Akama - Is it really just me, or does this card smell faintly of shit. I mean, there's so much that has to happen before this card even be remotely good. Firstly you've got to have a board thats ready to attack, and secondly this card needs setup because it has no rush on its own. And thirdly, if you have a board thats ready to attack and your opponent cant clear it, arent you technically already ahead by miles?
Dwarf Planet - Yes, its very powerful if your opponent has no board. Unfortunately if they do, then this card is merely a middling card. Its kinda like nagrand slam, except theres little to no reason to ever believe any of the minions would survive a trade. Its a discover card, something you dont put into your deck.
Stalwart Avenger - Im gonna address the draenei synergies later, but this card deserves special mention because it is this card, not akama and certainly not moldara, that will be the build around for an archetype. Between its massive attack, and Expedition Sergeant, Unyielding Vindicator, and Crystalline Greatmace, you have the ingredients for making a minion thats so terrifying to leave alive, if it isnt already hitting your face for at least 9 damage when played.
Hostile Invader - Control card, and quite decent. But it does cost 5 mana, almost a nod towards moldara, but otherwise a fairly shit card.
Alright, warrior cards. Every expansion needs an easy to build, tribal synergy deck, and this time its warrior's. Just want to say, I like the draenei synergy. Play a load of draenei on board, and if your opponent cant clear it then you either win via Exarch Akama or put such great amounts of stat of board that you probably win anyway. And if that doesnt do it for you, heres' stalwart avenger doing maybe around 10-15 damage to your face. Will this deck be good? Well yeah. Unfortunately, like all tribal decks they are doomed to start well before ending in a whimper. Id say it'll probably be one of the better decks out there, then past month 1 it's playrate would probably tank to about 5% at best.
Stalwart avenger though, I think is good enough to build around this card and forget all the other draenei synergy.
Exarch Akama is pretty much designed to be used with Expedition Sergeant.
Unless akama grants charge to sleeping minions I just dont see it. There's currently two ways of doing it, via Expedition Sergeant and Stranded Spaceman, the latter being better than the former. But as I mentioned earlier, you need board and if your board is already doing damage then youre technically ahead and akama is merely a win-more card. Kinda like bloodlust nowadays, except you need to set it up.
Im not saying akama wont see play. Chances are good you'll just put him in the deck because why not? But the real build around in my opinion is Stalwart Avenger, not akama.
And incidentally, stalwart avenger curves nicely from expedition sergeant, so its more likely designed with avenger in mind rather than akama himself.
It seems to me that Akama is supposed to be like Zarimi was supposed to be, i.e. a way for a slower deck to slam the door after it establishes control. Except that Zarimi ended up being way more useful for aggro decks. I concur that Akama is so situational it's hard to countenance maindecking.
Moldara... I can see the thought process. In control v control matchups, it adds an escalating amount of value, so that eventually you play a board of five or six or seven five-cost minions and you exhaust your opponent's clears and you win. However... I concur with you that the first drop or two are really rough. It's easy to spend five mana and wind up with an under-statted battlecry minion and lose a lot of tempo, and sometimes you'll summon a Blood Treant and it'll just suck, especially since those then sabotage the premise of "escalating value" by compromising future Spores.
Basically, if we don't see a VERY slow meta evolve soon, it's hard for me to see Moldara being good.
