Initially published by Cyan Ventures in 2019, ZED is a fist-person narrative puzzle game developed by the Chuck Carter (artist for Myst and the Command & Conquer Games), Joe Fielder (writer for BioShock Infinite, The Flame and the Flood), and David Chen (Metal Gear Solid series, Narcosis). Recently, the game got acquired by From Away Games, which is an indie studio formed by the formerly mentioned developers, minus David Chen, with one William Sullivan added to the team.

Unfortunately, it seems this new studio is unable to support this version of the game anymore, and are as such delisting it. The game currently sits at a 61% on Steam, so not the best reception, but it's one dollar (or your regional equivalent), so it might be worth it if you have the money to spare. It's also VR compatible, to get really immersed if you have a headset. Visit the game's Steam Page to purchase it. A remake of the game might come at some point, but the announcement makes no mention of it.

Quote From From Away Games

Dear ZED Community,

We wanted to share an important update about ZED’s future.

Our studio, From Away Games, recently acquired the rights to ZED. This was a meaningful step for us, as we remain deeply inspired by the game’s emotional story, its beautiful world, and the vision of our cofounder Chuck Carter, the original creator. We also have a future vision for where we hope to take the story from here.

However, we are a small independent team without the resources to maintain or update the version of ZED last updated in 2019. After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset ZED in its current form.

As part of this process, ZED has been removed from sale on digital storefronts, which will soon include Steam. Existing owners will continue to have full access to download and play the game.

We sincerely thank everyone who has supported ZED over the years. It is a work that touched many people, and we are honored to help preserve its legacy.

If you have any questions or encounter any issues accessing your copy of ZED, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
Thank you again for being part of the original ZED journey.

We look forward to sharing what’s next when the time comes.

— The From Away Games Team
