Square Enix Announced a Brand New HD-2D Game - The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales was announced today during the end of July Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase and wow, it is looking fun! Square Enix made the bombshell drop, alongside Octopath Traveler 0, right at the end of the direct and showcased almost 3 minutes of visuals including gameplay teasers.

Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, sorry to those who haven't upgraded yet, but there is plenty of time before its "2026" release date, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales takes place in the continent of Philabieldia, which has been overrun by beast tribes. Playing as the game's namesake Elliot, you and your fairy companion Faie go on an adventure outside of the Kingdom of Huther to investigate a set of ruins.

Combat looks fun with strategic elements at play, and 7 different types of weapons including chains that will pull enemies into you. You can upgrade your weapons with Magicite, by forming different combinations of crystals to give you different effects. What types of weapons? Swords, Bows, Chains, and Sickles were all showcased alongside throwable Bombs, which probably isn't a weapon type but sure is cool.

Elliot and Faie can both be controlled separately which adds a layer of complexity to the gameplay, though if you have a friend your friend can play alongside you by controlling Faie at the same time for a cool co-op experience. We don't know a whole lot else about the game yet, and with it releasing at some point next year, there's plenty of time for Square Enix to tell us more.

A demo has been made available on the eshop so give it a go if you have a Nintendo Switch 2.
