Konami has just announced a new Yu-Gi-Oh format known as Genesys. It's a bit of a crazy one because of some new changes in rulings:
- No Pendulum or Link Monsters can be used. The game uses the original board layout with no Pendulum Zones or Extra Monster Zones.
- Apart from not being able to use Pendulums or Link Monsters, there is no banlist. Yep, you heard that right. You can use every card that isn't a Link or Pendulum Monster.
- Instead of a traditional banlist some cards have a "point" value assigned to them. When you build your deck, the number of points your cards are worth cumulatively cannot be above 100, though some events may change this cap. At the time of writing this, there are 505 cards that have a point value assigned to them. It's not clear how points are calculated in the case of multiple copies of the same card.
- This limit applies cumulatively to your Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck.
- The original banlist does not apply. You may have 3 copies of any card, provided that it is not a Link or Pendulum Monster. If point values on cards stack for each copy, you may also be limited to how many copies of a card you can run based on its point value.
- Konami keeps a list of every card with a point value assigned to it. If a particular card is not on the list, it has no point value.

Quote From Konami The Genesys rules are simple:
- No Link Monsters or Pendulum Monsters are allowed. All other cards are allowed. The original field layout is used, with no Extra Monster Zones nor Pendulum Zones.
- The standard Forbidden & Limited Cards list is not used. All those cards can be used, except Link Monsters and Pendulum Monsters. Usual limit of 3 copies max of any card still applies.
- Deck construction uses a point system. Some cards are assigned a point value; most cards cost zero points. The total point cost of cards in your Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck (combined) cannot exceed the point cap for that event.
- The standard point cap is 100, but events can be run with any point cap, or even a zero-point cap! Official Tournament Stores can set their own caps for their tournaments.
