After just being announced back in May, Fox McCloud and his crew have landed on Nintendo Switch 2 today and Nintendo has dropped a launch trailer to go alongside it.

Star Fox is based on the 1997 release on the Nintendo 64, "Star Fox 64" taking us on a mission to save the Lylat system which looks absolutely incredible.

  • All the planets have received huge visual updates.

  • Cinematic cutscenes have been added.

  • There are mission briefing between stages which open up the story and characters.

  • Challenge Mode is a new addition that allows you to replay stages which new objectives.

  • Battle Mode is a 4v4 mode to fight other players and has a few different types of objectives.

  • You can use the Joy-Con 2 Mouse controls when playing solo in the campaign or challenge mode.

  • GameChat has AR filters that allow you to appear as your character including a moving mouth as you actually speak into your microphone.

Additionally, you can use the "local Game Share" function to play Star Fox with people on the original Nintendo Switch system which is quite cool. You're, of course, limited to the Battle Mode.

Battle Mode Features in Star Fox

There are a few different objectives you can participate in during the 4v4 matches inside Battle Mode.

  • Corneria: Secure control of a designated space.

  • Fichina: Collect energy crystals.

  • Sector Y: Retrieve cargo from space pirates.

Star Fox is now available at retailers if you're looking for a physical copy and online via the Nintendo eShop.

  • Yeah... I'm probably buying this before the weekend.

Star Fox 64 was, if not my favourite, my second favourite game on the N64. I still know the dialog by heart and I'm pretty sure I can play it blindfolded.

It's one of those games that was endless fun even though it was quite linear; I was always trying to achieve higher and higher scores and that bastard Star Wolf and his cronies were always there to upset the run by taking someone on the squad out.

Oooooh temptation, you are so strong. It's a damn good year though for nostalgia. Star Fox and then Ocarina of Time later?? We just need another recreation of Super Mario 64 and I've got my trifecta from back in the day. Hell, we even got a 007 game this year, not a remake but it kinda counts haha.
