Paleo Pines Gets Its Final Major Update With Dino Tracking, Saddlebags, and Automated Ranch Helpers

Independent developer Italic Pig has launched the second and final major update for its cozy dino-ranching sim Paleo Pines, rolling it out across platforms today (July 13, 2026) and closing out the studio's Players' Choice Kickstarter campaign in style. This one is a big, community-voted quality-of-life and content drop, packing in advanced dinosaur tracking, expanded ranch customization, and a bunch of handy new dino behaviors.

The team says this final milestone is dedicated to honoring their Kickstarter backers and fulfilling the community's ultimate wishlist, which is exactly the kind of send-off we love to see.

"The day has finally come to launch this final piece of the Players' Choice puzzle," said Aimee, speaking on behalf of the Paleo Pines team. "We are incredibly grateful to our community and our Dino Designers who helped shape this update. We can't wait to see everyone exploring the new features, decorating their ranches, and showing off their screenshots!"

What are the headline new features?

There is a lot to dig into here, from smarter dino hunting to letting your prehistoric pals do the chores for you. Here are the key additions:

  • Ultimate Dino Tracking: A brand-new dinosaur "skin tracker" has been added to the journal. Players can track specific color combinations, and the next time a dinosaur of that rarity spawns, it is guaranteed to be the exact one the player is hunting for.

  • Mari's Upgraded Records: Mari's dinosaur records now feature a search box and rarity filtering, plus a new option to permanently erase a dinosaur from the archives.

  • Saddlebags: Large dinos can now carry 2-4 items, while small dinos can carry two items back to the ranch from anywhere.

  • Automated Foraging: Small dinos will now automatically collect nearby wild collectables and carry them for the player.

  • Ranch Maintenance: Small dinos can be assigned to composters to pick up poop automatically, and clearers can now clear poop from the ranch too.

What is new for farming and decorating?

Green thumbs and interior decorators get plenty to play with as well.

  • Fresh agriculture and cuisine: Plant Meadowstar, Fiddlehead Fern, Rainbow Trees, and Rainbow Cacao Trees, then whip up new recipes like Bean Surprise and Rainbow Cake.

  • Expanded customization and decor: The update introduces a poignant new Memorial Garden area and new carvings to Dapplewood. You can also decorate with a Stegosaurus plushie, a Postosuchus statue, a fossil wall, and vibrant new Rainbow and Selkie ranch house colors.

Quality-of-life upgrades

Rounding things out is a generous list of quality-of-life tweaks aimed at making exploration and daily ranch life smoother:

  • A new compass item

  • An inventory auto-sort button

  • A journal option to skip to the next time of day

  • Town board quest cancellation

  • A sprint control toggle

  • Adjusted sprint speeds for several species

  • Boosted wood rewards
