Marathon's Mid-Season 2 Update Drops First PvE Mode, Vault Breaker

Marathon's Mid-Season 2 Update is live right now, and it's a big one for anyone who's been itching to fight something other than other players - it brings the game's first-ever experimental PvE mode, Vault Breaker, alongside a batch of balance and progression tweaks. If you'd rather get the highlights at a glance, Bungie has also put out a Mid-Season 2 overview video summarizing the key changes.

What is Vault Breaker?

Vault Breaker is Marathon's first experimental PvE mode, and it's a roguelite hunt through the UESC Marathon's Cryo Archive. Runners drop into the deck chasing loot and deeper access, taking on progressively tougher Vaults across multiple runs. Best of all, it's approachable from the jump - you can play it solo, as a duo, or with a full trio, and there's no Runner Level gate to worry about.

Vault Breaker: Marathon's first experimental PvE mode, a roguelite experience set inside Cryo Archive where Runners take on progressively tougher Vaults across multiple runs. Available July 21 through August 4.

Yep, this one is limited-time so if you want to break some Vaults, get on it.

What else is in the Mid-Season 2 Update?

Beyond the new mode, the update rolls in fresh challenges, cosmetics, and a round of sandbox tuning. Here's what's landing:

  • Unique Codex challenges and rewards: New cosmetics including emblems, a profile background, a weapon style, and a weapon charm.

  • Sandbox and balance updates: WSTR Combat Shotgun buffs, balance changes to the D54 Battle Pistol and Misriah 2442 shotgun, a new equipment infil limit to curb grenade and Bubble Shield spam, and updated Implant iconography.

For the full breakdown - including Sponsored Kit upgrade paths, Armory offers, and complete balance details check out the preview blog.
