A new roadmap for the future of Dungeons & Dragons going into 2027 released at Gen Con this week and we've got some exciting news!
The roadmap doesn't just show the new games dropping, but we've also got a glimpse of new features coming to D&D Beyond, the official digital toolset of Dungeons & Dragons, and we've also got a quick peek at new partnered content that is dropping.
New Dungeons & Dragons Content
The big ones for folks that aren't knee-deep in tabletop is the coming additions of World of Warcraft and Star Wars into the realms of Dungeons & Dragons through "Universes Beyond". This is the exact same kind of crossover that we're seeing out of Wizards of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering.
Wizards employees have noted that they were planning on striking a careful balance between their normal D&D product lineup and the Universes Beyond line to help prevent things from getting too bloated.
World of Warcraft
The World of Warcraft addition to Dungeons & Dragons arrives in November and will include a new book which has 11 new species, 9 subclasses (6 brand new ones), 26 magical items, 30 dungeon boss states, 60 spells, and rules for mounts, companion creatures, and professions. There will be a special collector's edition book with Horde and Alliance insignia on opposing sides which is also a nice touch.
Azjol-Nerub, Blackfathom Deeps, Deadmines, Dire Maul, Onyxia's Lair, Scarlet Monestary, and Shadowfang Keep are all being introduced into Dungeons & Dragons within the book.
There is also going to be an additional book, "Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack" which "carries your party from the Lower Spire to the Frozen Throne where the Lich King awaits". This will be meant for characters level 16-20.

Star Wars
Not much was said about this other than seeing it on the roadmap. Not too surprising since it's arriving in 2027, but the logo alone is enough to build the hype.
Non-Universes Beyond Additions
The Season of Magic will be introducing Arcana Unleashed which is releasing in just a handful of weeks on September 15.
In 2027 we're going to see the Season of Survival with Dark Sun (reveal trailer), and later on the Season of Sword of Sorcery which adds Greyhawk into the mix. Dark Sun will be the first mature-rated setting with an 18+ rating and books which will be shrink-wrapped to keep younger fans from seeing the gruesome art. A content warning also hints that there may be nudity, which would be a first for modern D&D. Dark Sun is also adding in the Psion class, the second new class for D&D following the Artificer.
Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen will be coming in the middle of 2027 and will feature Dreldza, the daughter of the witch-queen Iggwilv. We're seeing artwork showing Castle Greyhawk hinting towards a return to one of the first megadungeons in D&D.
D&D Beyond Updates
A handful of D&D Beyond updates were teased including a new Looking for Group system on the website, new tools for DMs, a brand new mobile play mode, campaign creation, improved search, and the ability to prepare scenes as a DM. Very nice additions to an already strong digital toolset!

The goal is for D&D Beyond to make it easier for players and dungeon masters to experience the settings they love. They don't want for people to wait so long to be able to play in these great settings and so the team is bringing on studios who develop other content within the D&D ruleset to bring their content to everyone.
These three new partnerships bring Ghostfire Gaming, Visionary Productions & Design, and Kobold Press to add more content to D&D.
D&D Icons
Quote From Wizards D&D Icons is a new initiative led by Joe Manganiello that pairs legendary creators and visionaries with the D&D team to shape the future of the game. Icons will touch everything from setting guides and adventure modules to accessories and beyond, all in close collaboration with the studio.
Dragonlance, with Tracy Hickman
Dragonlance is returning, with co-creator Tracy Hickman working with the team to give this storied setting a new, epic treatment.
Greyhawk, with Luke Gygax
Greyhawk is coming back as well. Luke Gygax is working from his father Gary Gygax's previously unreleased notes to build classic Greyhawk experiences planned for 2027, seen partly through the eyes of the archmage Melf.
Drizzt Do'Urden, with R.A. Salvatore
No D&D Icons lineup would be complete without the creator of the game's most enduring character—R.A. Salvatore. His Drizzt books have hit the New York Times bestseller list more than 20 times, selling over 50 million copies in a dozen languages.
Drizzt holds a special place in the world of D&D, and we're excited to bring the most legendary drow the Forgotten Realms has ever seen back to the table.
