Arrowhead has thrown open the doors to Helldivers 2's new frontier today, with the Devoid of Liberty update sending divers straight into the Illuminate Void to hunt down mutated horrors and liberate the mysterious Source Planet. The update is live now, and the counteroffensive against the Illuminate is officially underway.
How do you get into the Void?
The way in comes courtesy of the recent 'Census Thunder' campaign, during which Helldivers secured large reserves of Voteless tissue samples from the Void to help study the menace. Super Earth's Ministry of Science used that research to open and stabilize a wormhole on Rirga Bay, and the resulting Gateway is now open. "We're sending our best, Helldivers. And that means you."

What is the Source Planet?
Space inside the Void is a genuinely strange place. Arrowhead describes worlds with no stars and no skies to admire from the surface, planets that have been pulled in, transformed, mutated, and reborn. These worlds hold Illuminate ruins and ancient technologies that divers must document and destroy.

Your ultimate goal is to navigate these bizarre planets, find the Source Planet, formerly known as Seasse, and liberate it. Be warned, though: Seasse is a shadow of its former glory, now consumed by haunting flora from the Void and packed with Illuminate horrors. That includes the Wretch, the Crusher, and the abominable lands they call home.
What is new in Devoid of Liberty?
The biggest shakeup here is how missions are structured. Rather than the more linear dives of the past, operations in the Void come with several randomized primary objectives, which means squads will need to think fast and adapt on the fly to dive and extract safely.

Here is what you will be doing out there:
Complete several randomized primary objectives per operation
Document your discoveries with the tactical video camera
Destroy Illuminate structures
Conduct reconnaissance missions
Unlock secondary extraction zones on Void planets to give your squad a better shot at getting back to the Destroyer
Fight alongside SEAF support squads to unravel the secrets of the Void

The Void is dangerous and time is of the essence, so the mantra is simple: complete your objectives and extract. You won't be facing these new challenges alone, either, with SEAF support squads on hand to help reveal the hidden truths and uncover the source of the anomaly.
When can you play it?
Right now. Arrowhead says the fight for a safer tomorrow begins today, with Devoid of Liberty live at this very moment. Take back the galaxy, divers, and give these squids hell. Do note that gameplay requires internet access and a paid-for subscription on console, sold separately.
