New Ocarina of Time Details Revealed: Key Characters, Location Overviews, and Gameplay

Nintendo has released new information about the upcoming Ocarina of Time and we also have a release date! There was a lot to unpack so let's dive in! Ocarina of Time releases on November 6, 2026.

Observations of Gameplay

  • Expect to see more dialog from characters to let their personalities shine.

  • Link can now jump at the press of a button! This wasn't a thing on the N64, jumps were automatic when hitting a ledge.

  • The store in Kokiri Forest doesn't have a loading screen.

  • Navi still gives you hints during gameplay.

  • Z-targeting is still here.

  • Motion controls work with the Slingshot. We're assuming most items have motion controls for modernization.

  • Loading screens between some zones have been kept for a flavor.

  • Threads of Time is a new feature showing you were you've been on your adventure.

  • There is a tapestry that unlocks over time showcasing your progress as well.

  • The A button is still how you can roll, but if you hold it down, you start sprinting!

  • New details have been added around Hyrule Castle Town.

  • Time always passes no matter where you are.

  • The Ocarina has a unique Switch 2 feature: You can hum songs that are picked up via the Microphone on the console and have them played!

    • And yes, it even works with playing instruments.

  • Characters are fully voiced in cut scenes.

Zelda Notes App Update

The smartphone application, Nintendo Switch App, will be rolling out support for Ocarina of Time within the Zelda Notes section.

  • There is a feature in the app that allows you to play an Ocarina.

  • You can share your own musical creations online via QR Codes.

  • There is an Ocarina of Time Quiz section.

  • A feature shows you what you've accomplished in-game and takes screenshots of key moments as you play.

New Amiibos

Young Link and Young Zelda amiibos are coming! They unlock cosmetic masks in Ocarina of Time when scanned which feature the N64 versions of the characters.

New Switch Hardware

Featuring the triforce, Nintendo has announced a new Switch 2 edition that is themed for The Legend of Zelda.

  • Man, Link looks so weird in this. All the kids do, honestly, but Link has it the worst, especially with his 🥺 face when having an item above his head.

The rest of the game, though looks amazing! Can't wait to get it, alongside that Switch 2.

    • I thought Zelda was the only character who looked kinda weird.

The art style though, I'm a massive fan of what they've done. I was a little worried about it when we only had "bed link" to go off of but the entire game looks very cohesive and gameplay makes it work well. I'd love to see this running on the hardware though and not a compressed stream.

I too am chasing the console release. I'm also getting the amiibos, pro controller, and almost certainly will get the foil edition of the physical release no matter the cost.

The Ocarina they announced interests me. I have always wanted an Ocarina and remember in Nintendo Power when Songbird Ocarina would advertise in every issue. Makes sense to mayyybe chase down an official one from Nintendo now all these years later. We'll see though, I'm more interested in the game and hardware.
