What Are You Playing? Jovial June 2026

Hello everyone. We are on the halfway month of the year already. Happy Pride Month everyone. I'm celebrating as we speak with my profile picture.

I've started EA Sports WRC, and after some driver updates, and a bit of luck, surprisingly I can actually run the game. I realize that my strategy of buying the game and hoping my computer can run it is not a great one, but it hasn't failed me yet so far. I definitely need a new computer though. One with more than 8GB of RAM and 475GB of storage space.

I'm representing Out of Games with my team logo.

And thus, I also tried to do something that I don't normally do. I've played around with this in other games before, but for the first time in any meaningful capacity... try to use the livery editor in a game. I don't usually touch on this because most people who know me know that my artistic ability is 0, but I went ahead to try to represent the Out of Games color scheme on the car.

If you're wondering who H. Morisoto and C. Supra are supposed to be, then they're both original characters I've been workshopping my brain for a long time. I actually took a playwriting class a while ago, and wrote a play about two race car drivers and these two are them.

  • The logo and the car look amazing, Demon. Definitely showcasing Out of Games hard!

My plans for June are pretty simple. I've got Factorio scheduled to be played every Thursday night so that's going to continue on until we beat Space Age. It's funny to have to actually schedule playing games, what a sorta sad time it is.

Path of Exile 2 has been... fun? I've definitely enjoyed the 10 hours I've dumped into it so far, giving it a real shot after I was disappointed with it when it first came out. Boss fights feel engaging with the dodge mechanics, but at the same time some regular combat feels a little more punishing than before.

Finding skill gem drops and being able to choose what to make them has been a nice change of pace though. I do genuinely love the skill gem system now with it not being bound to your items so you don't have to worry about getting that 6-link. I know getting 6 support sockets is a helluva grind now, but at least once you do it once, you don't have to do it again assuming that skill gem is being kept in. I do think this might make it more difficult to change builds around quickly, but we'll see once we hit endgame.

Movement feels more fluid in general which is a nice change of pace. Having your character continue moving when you are using abilities after you've just been walking around is really nice. Speaking of abilities though, I feel so weak. I know I don't know the game as well as I know Path of Exile 1, so I'm not going to trash on it too hard, but I do feel like I'm just not as powerful. I'm playing a Lich (Witch) and I've gone hard into Chaos magic because my minions fantasy didn't really pay off after I hit the late teens; I just felt like there wasn't enough minions involved yet so I couldn't be the World Best Necromancer (TM). I do want to try something minion-heavy again in the late game, and may even go build scouting to see if that's even a viable option instead of a DIY approach. My first character in any ARPG is always going to be a DIY build so I can better learn the systems and look for things that might be broken. Other characters? More likely to look up top builds so I can worry more about collecting the gear, though in Path of Exile 1 I definitely switched between the two types of play.

Overall it's been a fun experience, it makes me want to play Path of Exile 1 more though.

Escape From Tarkov's Icebreaker patch needs to get played as well. I logged in briefly over the weekend to clean my inventory up because it is an absolute disaster and a half and I know there's going to be a lot of space needed before I dive back into gameplay so that's important to get done.

I don't really see myself playing anything else this month. Probably jump into Pokopia a few times to continue progression there, and maybe some Mario Kart to keep my skills up to date, but nothing too serious expected on the Switch. More of a focus on Out of Games this month than actually playing games :P

  • Path of Exile 2 was a bit of a bust.

I bricked my Witch lol. I started out with a minion build, it wasn't going too hot, so I pivoted to a build I was looking at on the leaderboards and then, I just didn't have the funds to finish it right so the character is dead weight.

Started a new one though, Druid! Playing with some serious frost spells and the clear is just insane. Still need to finish getting through the campaign, but the handful of hours I have put into it so far has been great times.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about PoE2. It's good, it's really good, but it's not PoE1 either.

    • I've definitely felt that way about games before. So many games that I've played that I really wanted to like, but then something about them just stopped me from being able to truly say they were great games. Lots of indie racers I've played had really fun gameplay, but then they were pretty much over as soon as they really started hitting their stride.

In other news, I recently graduating from designing themes parks and epic roller coasters to designing hospitals.

  • I remember hearing about old Hearthstone streamer Reynad starting his own game years ago and finally looked it up to see if it existed. Turns out The Bazaar is pretty fun. You try to set up the best autofight layout of items you can and you leave behind your character’s ghost to fight the next person through the game so it has a ton of PvP but all smoothly asynchronous. It is pretty frustrating when you run into someone’s impossible build and get stomped but they did a nice job. Pricey to get all the other characters though…

  • I've also been doing a lot of PEAK solo runs to get some of the more nasty achievements, and I just got what I thought was going to be the hardest one in the game to grab.

    Edit: Another 2 today.

  • Continuing on the Path of Exile 2 journey. I did a ton of grinding over the weekend, though a very good chunk of that was build refinement and just trading to boost my gear. I was able to triple my damage so now I feel like a god. I still need to get my fourth ascendancy done so that I can truly get my damage up. That's the next big goal.

I'm expecting that to be my game of the week so let's see where we're at next week :D

Oh I also had a decent Vaal on my ring with that solid 9% roll to All Ele Res. It also bumped the 12% cast speed I had on it up to 13% so quite happy about that. I Vaal'd a dozen Snake Pit rings last night and this was the best result.

  • I've had very little time to play any games since I've been swamped with schoolwork. I ended up taking poetry classes and they ended up taking a lot of my time, so I don't think I've actually played anything all week.

That said, I got gifted Meccha Chameleon by a really great friend of mine yesterday, and I'm really excited to get together and play.

  • What have I been playing...well, since my absence at Out of Games, a little bit of everything but a whole lotta nothin' at the same time. I've simply lacked the energy or the willpower or the motivation; something is blocking me from pressing the Play button 90% of the time. But even then, I've done a few things; in no particular order:

    • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came out after I left, and holy fucking shit was it the greatest video game I have ever played in my life. I called it from the first trailer: this game was going to be Game of the Year material. I love love love the game, and I even got my first ever tattoo depicting the Expedition 33 armband the team wears.

    • Acquired Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The former I didn't care for, stopped playing, eventually gave it a stronger attempt, then quit playing again. Z-A, though, was awesome and I've played through it three times (twice with the DLC).

    • Started a second playthrough of Pokemon Sword, focusing on Pokemon I've never used like I usually strive for. Finished the main story and the Isle of Armor, but stopped caring before the Crown Tundra was finished.

    • Started and finished a second playthrough of Cassette Beasts, just in time to learn of the sequel: Cassette Beasts 2002! My first playthrough ended right at the final boss, but this time I finished it, the post-game, and all of the achievements.

    • Started Borderlands 4 because it's now "Verified" on Steam Deck, which is good because my old PC cannot handle stuff like Ray Tracing or the specs of BL4. I love Borderlands, but maybe I'm outgrowing it or something because I haven't had the drive I would usually maintain for a favorite series.

    • Hollow Knight: Silksong came out, and it was every bit as amazing as we were all waiting for. Free expansion can't come soon enough.

    • I really enjoyed my time with Monster Hunter Wilds - bad reviews be damned - so to visit the universe once more I tried my luck with Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. What a perfect game for me: turn-based monster hunting was exactly what I wanted, overcoming great odds and using your knowledge and skill combined against imposing threats. Great experience; waiting for the expansion for this one too.

    • Bought both expansions for Diablo IV, but the end result was that I petered out faster than I would have liked. Didn't even finish the last one before I uninstalled it to make room for Next Fest demos; stupid old PC and its stupid low storage space!

    • Compared to the original Path of Exile, I found myself rather enjoying Path of Exile 2. I stopped playing it because I felt I could wait until 1.0 was launched; I had seen enough, and I finished what content I could. I had a good time with my Thunder Monk; we'll see what awaits me in the future.

    • Started and stopped a second attempt at finishing Black Myth: Wukong. Love the experience, but I get distracted by the next shiny game and Wukong just takes up too much space on my current computer. Can't even run it on the Steam Deck, unfortunately.

    • Started a new playthrough of Sea of Stars, getting past the plot-twist moment that I stopped at the first time. Haven't finished; we'll see if I do.

In addition to the above, since I left I have bought and began the following games that I still have not finished: BL4, Escape From Ever After, Eternals Strands, The First Berserker: Khazan, Kingdom Hearts collection (specifically the 1.5 + 2.5 Final Mix), Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Stellar Blade, and Wild Bastards. I have also purchased the following (that I haven't even started): Avowed, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Esoteric Ebb, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the remaining Kingdom Hearts games, Patapon 1+2 Replay (which to be fair I already played on my PSP years ago), Resident Evil IV, and Voidling Bound.

    I have a problem.
