Thoughts on Zombie Garen? Will it last?

Sup everyone!

So I recently started playing with this deck a bit the last week or so (which is about how new this deck is as well) and not only is it STUPID easy to pilot but it will also help you ladder FAST! Not sure if anyone here has had a chance to play it yet? If not, here's a video on the decklist and some games: Zombie Garen Deck Guide.

My question is, do you think this deck will actually last as a #1 mid-range option or is this just a result of the current meta BEFORE the patch changes that were just announced today? I just feel like this deck is too simple and too one-sided as far as strategy is concerned to see any true longevity in competitiveness. What's everyone think!?

  • Rekindler Garen is currently a S tier deck variation born from the Fiora Barrier deck.

    Its going to stay top tier until:
    1- Rekindler gets nerfed; OR
    2- A better variation arises; OR
    3- A big change in meta due to buffs delivered to other cards.

  • The one thing I don't like about it (or rather do like about it, since I don't play it myself and therefore only find myself on the opposite side of the board) is that its very predictable and linear.  I'm impressed that both the games you highlighted were control matchups and you handled them fine, but I do have to wonder how much was misplay by your opponents.  The Garen deck is highly dependent on wide board and leveled Garen, and if its deprived of those 2 objectives it has zero catchup capability.

  • The last patch's nerf to The Rekindler will slow it down a bit and, on top of that as @OldManSanns said, it's a very linear and predictable deck so it's not that hard to setup up for a good answer to its plays (draw luck be on your side).

    It still a very powerfull and easy to pilot deck, so if it'll keep be that strong maybe another nerf to some core cards (once again The Rekindler) may be on its way in the near future.
