It took a physical force of will to tear my eyes away. I certainly wasn't about to throw anything down there, even experimentally, but by sight alone somehow I knew deep in my bones that it didn't have a bottom. I managed to keep my gaze calmly focused on a vending machine for all of six seconds before glancing back, and was startled to see that it had shifted. Was I imagining it, or had the hole moved closer?
