Slightly better Despicable Dreadlord. Despicable Dreadlord isn't a bad card, so I don't think this will be a bad card either.
Shamans will probably get more use out of it because of Wrath of Air Totem.
I am a little underwhelmed by this legendary, it isn't a bad card, but not a very impressive one. I will play this if I open it, but it isn't worth crafting.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I really like the design of almost all of these dual class cards so far. This one benefits mage a little more than Shaman right now. Mage has a couple more spell damage class cards in Standard than Shaman plus a lot more in wild. I think for Shaman to get the most out of this card, it would need a weapon with spell damage on it. Mage now has a 9 mana Flamestike with Kirin Tor Tricaster. I'm not sure what that is worth but it could be an interesting deck build
I can't really imagine a deck in which you are willing to run this as a combo board clear when mage and shaman have access to so many great single card control tools already. The single sided nature of the board clear is less relevant when you can't use it to bypass taunt minions.
If you want to do something strong with this, shaman is probably to class to go for, especially with lightning bloom being printed. The problem is that any combo that generates a lot of spell damage in one turn could also win by just playing burn spells.
This post is discussing the wild format.
I like seeing spell damage used creatively like this. It reminds me a bit of Unexpected Results from Boomsday in that style.

I'm surprised that we didn't have a similar card in the D-A-M-A-G-E card design competion.
As a huge fan of Spell Damage Shaman I'm insanely excited for this card. It's already a reasonably decent deck, and great support cards like this will really lift it to the next level.
We currently don't have much spell damage to support this card, but it's got a good baseline ability and stat spread already. I think it might see play in tempo-decks since it clears the board and also pushes face damage, but we'll see how that shakes out. If nothing else I think it makes Highlander lists just because its a pretty decent stand alone card.
Indeed, fun creative scaling mechanic with a lovely mini AoE on a stick
I like it already
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
It is a much better card than Despicable Dreadlord, has more health (more sticky) and goes face. I you can get any spell damage it is absurd.
A puzzle box? What does it say? ... Yogi-Saffron something... sure, let's open it, what is the worst that could happen?
This is lovely. Anybody else hoping that the other two Mage/Shaman cards will also have spell damage synergy? I can't wait!
Better call Thrall!
I like it. 6 health is sticky enough and if you combine it with spell dmg, it can provide board clears for ages or until it's dealt with. And both classes has access to enough +spell dmg to make this one a scary threat.

EU Legend: S52 (ZooHeal Lock); S76 (Highlander Hunter);
Both classes have a dragon that gives +2 spell damage, and shaman of course has the totem, so it’s not that difficult to get spell damage for this thing. Kind of weird that it goes face though
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
Let's be honest, how often has mage run spell damage minions or effects? Judged on its own, its basically a Dragonmaw Scorcher plus, and that's what it will be 90% of the time. With only 6 health, it will die the following turn and if it doesn't, you're likely in a commanding position to win anyway.
You might run this along with Bloodmage Thalnos and little else for a sometimes swingy play on 7, but otherwise its not really anyway impressive. There have been decks in the past running synergistic spell damage cards like Ethereal Augmerchant and Arcane Watcher, and mage has access to the very strong Azure Explorer, but in most cases, it has never worked out. For this card to maybe work, it must itself have spell damage, maybe +1, but unfortunately, it doesn't.
Really good, even if you don't invest in spell power it seems like a solid threat on the board.
This looks like a really good and fun card. The fact that it goes face might make a big difference sometimes. It will be hard to set this up for a massive blast (someone mentioned Kirin Tor Tricaster above) and even harder to make it stick for a turn, but solid value nonetheless.
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
Both mage and shaman can get put spell damage easily, and Despicable Dreadlord was always a solid play. So yes, this could improve a lot of decks while not being a buildaround.
Better Dreadlord so I guess it will be a staple regardless of how reliably you can combo it with spell damage
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
This card can totally lock you out of a game.. Just like despicable dreadlord locked out odd paladin.. You get some spells damage and you could basically win against aggro.
So for Shaman it's a SLIGHTLY better Despicable Dreadlord at best, as this can hit FACE. BUT the damage increases with spell dmg. However i don't think this will EVER stay alive longer than 1 turn, so you gotta have a lot of spell dmg on board for this to work. And opponents always LOVE removing spell damage. And this also doesn't have that much synergy with Squallhunter, because of Squallhunters overload. Unless you play it AFTER [Hearthstone Card (Ray Frostwhisper) Not Found] survives a turn, which is VERY UNLIKELY.
For mage it has way more synergy and better cards like Azure Explorer and Kirin Tor Tricaster. This will probably see play in a more blast/burn mage archetype.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Base value is great, more health than Despicable Dreadlord so can be a staple, but i wonder if there will be any spell damage build around him, can get ugly fast
Off the bat everyone compares it to a Despicable Dreadlord with more potential, and it's easy to see why:
Despicable Dreadlord had the same cost with about the same stat line (slightly more aggressive and slightly less health at 4/5 instead of 3/6). But whereas DD only did 1 damage at the end of your turn to all enemy minions Ras deals 1 damage to all enemies and is improved by spell damage, which both classes have received a legendary with spell damage in AoO.
Unfortunately it's difficult to always fit in spell damage minions into a deck do to their deck building requirements. Mage has used, historically, spell damage minions if their tribal tag was part of a strong meta game - Celestial Emissary and Cosmic Anomaly saw play because Mage had access to Elemental Invocation to greatly discount their cost for a powerful board clear or single target removal. They're currently using Azure Explorer at the moment because of it's synergy with Maylgos and Arcane Breath in Highlander Mage.Mage will also be getting Mozaki, Master duelist who will gain spell damage per spell you play, it's clear these two have synergy with each other and their high health pool might even allow them to become a potent dynamic duo for Mage.
Shamans currently have Squalhunter and Lady Vashj as collectible minions with spell damage, but neither have seen much play since Shaman's evolution tool kit is much stronger than their spell casting value toolkit. They are able to summon the wrath of air totm, but that has a 3/4 chance of being another totem, and it is usually removed once summoned to avoid a shaman from high-rolling with lightning storm. Although in the past Shamans did have spell damage minions in their decks when they were using spirit claws as an aggro/control tool.
Most neutral spell damage minions do not see play aside from Malygos, who is a finishing piece in combo decks, or Bloodmage Thalnos, who is used for card draw.
We haven't seen the full Mage and Shaman list yet, but knowing how the card reveals works this is a sure sign that both classes will be receiving some spell damage minions. Whether they'll be strong enough to make this minion viable remains to be seen.
This card is going to make it into probably every Mage and Shaman deck, it will be that good. Interested to see just how oppressive it is going to become.

Good card - i think this will be played nonetheless you have spell damage synergy or not.
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
I really like this card but remain slightly skeptical about how strong it will actually turn out to be. I'd imagine it'll see play at least in Standard Highlander decks.
It's also fun to watch how some think it's going to be better in Mage decks due to the more playable Spell Damage minions they have access to and some are backing up Shaman due to the natural 1/4 chance to get the correct Totem. My vote in slightly on the Mages' side.
Despicable Dreadlord saw play, and this looks pretty much like an upgradable version of that. Mage has gotten quite a bit of Spell Damage recently (good ones too), and Shamans always have Wrath of Air Totem.
I say it seems like it could be pretty good.
To be fair, each class has spell damage synergy and this is a great card in either class, however it's probably just being slotted into highlander if token decks are popular and that will be the last we hear of it.
This card is solid and ofc remember Despicable Dreadlord. The effect is strong enough to be playable but i wonder if we can use the spell power to buff the effect with consistency (probably not imho)
I'll have to wait and see how good it actually is
Mage nowdays won't play for the board, and 1 dmg to everything won't clear much. Could be useful on Shaman if you try the +spell damage route, but then, you can't rely on the whole evolve mechanic. I think it's another no-go legendary.
What spell damage have shaman? Just Lady Vashj? The totem?
Mage have more SD, but have better aoe cards too...

Of course the comparison is made with Despicable Dreadlord, but I think there is some context missing for what made Dreadlord competitive. In Dreadlord's time, it mainly saw play in Zoolock as a way to counter a very prominent archetype at the time: Dude/Odd Paladin. While Ras Frostwhisper certainly has its use with the prominence of lackeys in standard, I can only see him going into tempo-based decks in either class, just like how Dreadlord mainly saw play.
I think Mage has more use for him than Shaman as Shaman has other more synergistic 5-cost plays like Totem Goliath and Shield of Galakrond. Maybe in a Burn Shaman to utilize the spell damage upside, but Burn Shaman cares more about using spell damage to go face with cheap burn rather than a minion that doesn't go face well. Might as well just run Cumulo-Maximus instead.
For Mage, I'm skeptical of how consistent the spell damage package and how much spell damage you can keep on the board. Yes there is Mozaki, Master Duelist, but she's a one-of in your deck.
Overall, I don't think Ras Frostwhisper will see consistent play in either class as he is low impact at a base and requires too much inconsistent support to increase his power.
For glory, honor, and gold!
Probably better for mage, but shaman might find it useful if they already have a spell damage totem up.
Seems better in Shaman with its Hero Power and the new weapon they got.
Has pottential, but i dont know if will see play
Nice card, if you can play spell dmg cards it becomes a reliable aoe
All hail the banshee queen.
Shaman might actually be able to make better use of this than Mage, they can hero power some spell damage. But this is a good card, I think. Despicable Dreadlord only had 5 health and could survive a turn.
Awesome card. Too expensive for a removal.
Control Mage gets some support but your Spell Damage better be cheap and durable.
I am super excited to play with this card! I love spell damage synergies, and I love that this enables both Shaman and Mage spell damage decks.
This card also seems solid since it damages all enemies and can scale. Despicable Dreadlord is a solid card, and Ras is even better.
Looking forward to trying him out in Odd Shaman and some kind of spell damage Mage in Standard.
With some deck building Ras Frostwhisper will make a viable otk deck
Very powerful effect that hopefully is reliable enough in mage.
Like... ok
-=alfi=-
Throw this in wild for maximum value. :D
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
I really don't think this is going to cut it in standard, mainly because I have little faith in spell damage mage in standard. In wild however, it's a different matter, with a lot more support. I've been playing with a spell damage mage in wild looking to see what support it needs, and what it's going to get, and this is a definite addition to that deck. Whether that deck can get to the power level of Secret Mage or Quest Mage is another matter though.
Hello, Spell Damage Mage! Spell Damage Shaman... I'll talk to you later. I'm busy right now.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Wrath of Air Totem just got a whole lot more deadly...
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
This card has great potential. It'll be an auto-include in Spell Damage based decks.
Man, the more I look at all these Spell Damage cards again the more interested I become. This seems solid even without Spell Damage, so with it I'm intrigued.
