Its really doing just good enough to be considered for nearly every deck. Remove 8 health from the opponent's board and discover a card from the bottom of your deck. A decent payoff for something that requires no further setup other than playing it.
But it does have a few downsides;
- The stats of this unit along with its tail are simply too small for a 7 drop. Most minions will easily value trade it, and most decks would not have any problems dealing with 7 health on board.
- It costs 7, which means you'll likely have to choose between playing Lightforged Cariel on curve and this thing. And whatever you pick will likely force an awkward turn next.
- It'll draw you one card. But with something like Radar Detector, is this really an upside? Paladin is notorious for being a class that mostly play 1 or 2 cards per turn, so with draw aplentiful, the importance of this one drawing a card is diminished somewhat.
Im fairly certain the next core set will see the return of many mechs, and maybe even the magnetic keyword, which will no doubt bolster the usefulness of this card further. But if Ive got to be honest, this card is good but definitely poorer than the other colossal minions so far, with the possible exception of Blackwater Behemoth.
So there's ofc a specific order you want to attack in, first The Leviathan to Dredge up a card, then The Leviathan's Claw to draw it. Also 14/7 in stats with 2 divine shields means this Colossal minion will need to be removed afterwards everytime.
This Colossal minion is also good or bad depending on the meta, if it'll be board based or not.
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
It's decent stats and we haven'T seen the Paladin Azsharan card yet so who knows where this goes
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
This is AMAZING.
If you attack with The Leviathan first and The Leviathan's Claw 2nd you can tutor a card that's on the bottom of your deck.
If you attack with The Leviathan's Claw first and The Leviathan 2nd you can draw a card AND tutor your next draw.
This is probably going to see play in almost every paladin deck, because it's draw, tutors, it has immediate impact on the board, it works well with Handbuffs (On the main body at least) AND it works really well alongside other popular cards in paladin such as Varian, King of Stormwind. And if it's near the bottom of your deck, you can Radar Detector as well to find it. This is just so flexible.
Also i feel like this is a really good The Garden's Grace target, if you run that holy spell as well. Maybe Holy Mech Paladin will be a thing?
And on top of that, we haven't seen the Azsharan/sunkun card yet. So that might be an additional reason to play The Leviathan as well. What an amazing card!
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Well, that's just a mighty fine card. Stats are good for its cost (8/4 with rush and you can split the damage or take out a big minion if you want), and it automatically draws you the card you just dredged. One of the best colossal minions yet.
We need to look at this from a control/big Paladin standpoint. it's a 7 mana drop that will get you two cards, and punch 1-2 minions for 4-8 damage and leave a board presence. Taken out of that regard, it's a crap card. If there were a way to create more of The Leviathan's Claw with minimal mana cost, then this would be pretty solid. Because honestly, relying on something like Cavalry Horn to drop this on the field and then somehow copying it isn't realistic in my opinion.
This doesn't look too bad. You get 8/7 worth of stats for 7 mana, this lets you look at the bottom of your deck each time it attacks, and with divine shield it might let you do that twice, and the claw draws you a card. The one you just dredged if you are even slightly smart about the order you attack in.
Wow! Works as removal and draw enginge! Looks pretty good!
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
A decently sturdy draw engine for Paladin decks, especially Buff Paladin decks that run Varian to potentially tutor it. Good for answering a pair of medium-sized threats or one very big threat while finding a useful card from your deck. I'd imagine this sees play in Buff Paladin, especially slower variants.
I don't want to cure cancer; I want to turn people into dinosaurs.
How will this card work when targeted by cards like Hysteria? Since Dredge lets you choose from 3 options, which you can't do on your opponent's turn, does that mean you choose a random card from Dredge?
"Truth is in the shadows, waiting to be revealed by the light. But light only disperses the shadow." - Me
"If other people shared traits of those considered naive, the world would've become a better place." - Also me
Dredge should be random, yes.

I find it kinda underwhelming, but I'm also fairly hyped for the return of Mechs in Standard, so ... mix feeling on this one!
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
I feel the same way: there's a big chance that the Core Set will change things up (Zilliax and the whole Magnetic package?), but we haven't had a Mech deck in a long while, so I am down for anything Team 5 has come up with!

And Paladin continues to get generically good Legendaries. Of course you're playing it in Mech, but even just the tutor/Dredge + Draw effect is worthwhile.
Hey, you heard about that Mario guy?
Seems like a very solid card, I expect it to be ran in most Paladin decks for its strong effect.
