Hello, Azeroth! Let's rock! It's getting close to that time of the year again, when we say goodbye to a number of expansions and say hello to a new animal/creature-themed year. We'll get into more detail about that when we're closer to the actual launch, but right now we want to focus on a teaser the Hearthstone twitter posted earlier today.
The clip is short, only 15 seconds, and it contains a guitar riff, mentions of singers, and a green hand opening the tavern doors to be greeted by loud cheers. From these clues, we can safely assume the hand belongs to Samuro (not this one), the in-universe lead singer of the Elite Tauren Chieftain band. The teaser also mentions that we'll get more information tomorrow.
While not explicitly stated, it's safe to assume this will be the next expansion for Hearthstone. What exactly it will contain is everyone's guess, but you better get ready for lots of musical terms, references and puns.
What do you think of this teaser? Are you excited for the next expansion? Will the new year be The Year of Rock? Let us know in the comments below!

Ages ago, I made a custom expansion called Metal & Mayhem: it was a part of my "Year of the Kodo" for a competition I was helping to run on HearthPwn. It was supposed to be the final expansion of my Year, but I didn't end up getting far enough; had to disqualify myself because I stupidly forgot to submit enough Neutral cards in the first wave >_> Anyway, Metal & Mayhem was gonna be about an E.T.C. rock concert that gets interrupted when Dr. Boom invades, unleashing his Mech hordes upon, well, the Horde.
I got a lot of things right from that Year of the Kodo submission, from Dr. Boom's return in The Boomsday Project to the Naga minion type (in my middle expansion), and now maybe we'll see an E.T.C.-focused expansion? That would be really cool.
From a glass half empty POV, consider them plagiarizing your ideas without giving you any credit. Anyways, kudos to you for finally seeing some of your ideas becoming reality which we all get to enjoy and play with soon™.
This could be a good time to add Elite Tauren Chieftain to the core set coz honestly, what could go wrong?
Someone also pointed out that Shadow Waltz flavour text has something to do with this expansion. Seems Rin, the First Disciple could be making a comeback!
I've got to admit I'm a little confused. My first reaction was "meh" - while I like some goofy stuff in Hearthstone as much as everybody else, I wouldn't exactly appreciate a whole goofy expansion. But then I remembered...
MrRhapsody's custom "Rock in Azeroth" expansion!
And if the real game delivers anything remotely close to that, I'll be more than happy :)) Will be fun to see how close our fellow custom card creator got with his version.
Okay, hear me out… Battle of the Bands! Two, three, or four “bands” involved, creating a faction for each band, similar to Gagetzan! Meaning multi-class cards coming back for this expansion. Different theme/mechanic for each band!
You weren't far off the mark here with this speculation, well done!
I did kind of think they’d do a band per class too. But multiclass bands with a legendary for each band member as opposed to each getting the “frontman” as their legendary seemed like more fun!
I'm going to be slightly more bold and guess it's a Shattrath expansion with a metal concert theme. Shattrath is where ETC performs in World of Warcraft.
They only showed up at the Darkmoon Faire once it was moved from a travelling faire to Darkmoon Island in Cataclysm. Shattrath was their first in-game appearance.
It should have been Ulduar after all…
You can tell it’s made by a small indie dev with those MS paint and PowerPoint graphics
Remember the day 1 datamined and forever unreleased ETC Mercenary? I remember.
Can't wait for my favourite cards, Elite Tauren Chieftain, Elite Tauren Beeftain, Elite Tauren Grieftain. Elite Tauren Curtain and of course Common Dwarven Mayor
Elite Tauren Beeftain lifts all the heavy gear, ably assisted by Roadie Guff.
Elite Tauren Chieftain does have five unique members. Samuro, Sig Nicious, Bergrisst, Mai'kyl, and Chief Thunder-skins. The band itself was personified by a Tauren bearing that name for Heroes of the Storm, and made its way into Hearthstone afterwards.
The wiki also lists Arthas as a (former) member, though I don't them making it a card with the DK class being a thing.
Also, didn't the original Elite Tauren Chieftain come out before the HotS character?
Heroes of the Storm was officially announced in 2011, and ETC was one of the heroes at that time.
