Should I dust my golden Sir Finley of the sands?

Submitted 5 years, 4 months ago by

I got it in a card pack but I’m a little conflicted if I should dust it or not. On one hand I don’t really play paladin and since it’s golden I could theoretically get the normal one in a pack as well. On the other hand it’s my first ever golden legendary from a card pack. If I were to dust it however are there any neutral/hunter legendaries I could craft? I don’t want any highlander cards as they are very meta-reliant and I feel would limit me in subsequent expansions.

For reference I already have: Leeroy Jenkins, Boommaster Flark, Zilliax, Zuljin and Cairne Bloodhoof.

Never dust anything above common unless there is something immediate and specific that you need in my opinion. That is how I operate and it generally has worked out much better for me that way. I have held on to lots of legendaries including golden ones that I don't use or don't need for this reason.

if it is golden, dust it, that is my golden rule.

like zoobernut said, if you don't know what you want to craft yet, then keep it.

if you have a golden legendary, unless it is literally the best legendary you could possibly have, then you are losing value by keeping it.

The only problem with this is that if that currently not used legendary then becomes massively used or even so broken that it gets a nerf then you lose dust/value by dusting golden legendaries right away. I have held onto legendaries including golden ones that were "shitty" only to have them become amazing later on. Hadronox is one of the better examples of this.

    Keep it for now.

Dust it once you decide you REALLY need dust to craft important cards.

That's a safeguard against the "oh i have extra dust, let's craft this fancy legendary!" and then you waste your resources.

In the meanwhile, decide if having golden cards is relevant to you. It's a subjective matter, but unless you are willing to regularly spend money on this game, it's pointless to focus on golden cards, in particular on golden legendaries.

Thank you so much guys! You have all been very helpful. So far SOU has been kind of a disappointment. Plus I got Siamat and King Phaoris from card packs so I’ll refrain from dusting the golden and Wait till the next expansion.

Well i personaly would Dust it because i do not have any plans playing him - but if you want to try him i would wait with the dusting! I personaly kept a Golden Making Mummies but just because i wanted to try this card anyway :)

if i were u i would dust him

card doesnt see play and even if he does u already said u dont play paladin

also if u DE him u can just craft any legendary u want (i personaly never cared about golden cards and dust all of them for a legendary that i want)

only downside is u have chancee to open sir finley again in your SoU packs

I have the same issue with Gral, the Shark (the only golden Legendary I've ever had).

In the end I decided to keep him hoping for a meta where it would have become playable. After 8 months, it hasn't happened yet but I'm still on my promise.

I personally think that there are more chanced to see Sir Finley of the Sands in competitive than Gral, so (unless you and in dust emergency) you should keep him and wait.

Regardless of keeping him, isn’t there still a chance of me opening a normal one as I only have the golden copy not the normal one? I

Yes but then you do not have the chance of opening a golden legendary :)

No, if you have a golden version you will not get the regular one out of a pack. Which might be a reason to hang on to it if you are still opening packs from Uldum.

I don't believe it will ever get nerfed since it hasn't proven to be OP, its stats are vanilla, its effect was already introduced in the game several times and since it requires you to play a highlander deck it's not very consistent. Baku and Genn were HoFd only because their effect was consistent from the start of the game and if they ever print a card which consistently draws Finley, which I doubt will happen, they will always nerf the card that draws before him. So if you don't plan on playing much with it and have a specific legendary in mind you would like to craft, I recommend dusting him.

I dust every golden unless it's something that I know I'm going to use that same dust to recraft anyway. For example, I have a golden Zilliax I've never dusted because I need Zilliax.

It sounds like you are a new player based on your join date and the few legendaries you own.  There is a rule called the 'No Legendary Duplicate Rule'.  You will not open duplicates of Legendaries in a set until you own all the Legendaries in that set.  The game does not distinguish whether the legendaries are golden or not but only if you own it or not.  If you do dust Finley, he will go back into the pool of legendary cards you can potentially open when you get your next legendary.  I'm not sure if this site has a new players guide but you might look for it on the forums.

I would keep Sir Finley for now.  I would not dust him for 1600 dust only to craft another legendary.  I think that is bad value.  However dusting him for 4 epics that are meta and will be around for awhile is a different story.  About 7 months from now Witchwood, Boomsday, and R. Rumble will leave standard. Some of those cards are still good, but I would 'bite the bullet' and try to craft from the 2 newest expansions first as those cards will be around longer assuming you are FTP and are interested in sticking with the game long term.

Actually I started playing hearthstone when karazhan came out cuz I remember buying it. I played a bit and then for some insane Reason which I now forgot I dusted all the karazhan legendaries and a couple of classic ones too. I realise my error and since it was too late I took a long break. Started playing much later and to and extent I’m still catching up. Though you’re right dusting it is not really worth it. I’ll just let it sit there and let him mock me.

Depends how much you value a golden card.  If they mean nothing to you then you and you don't plan to use Sir Finley then that is an easy dust.  I wouldn't dust it until you have a legendary you want at that moment in case you were to open it again, but I wouldn't sit on it for no reason if there is something new you could craft and have fun with but don't have the dust for.

Dude this is a safe disenchant, no one ever played it nor it will be played... It's just trash..

There's LITERALLY no good benefit to dusting just because it's there.  The card doesn't lose value'. It's 1600 dust if you dust it now or a year from now.

I picked up a golden Harbinger Celestia during boomsday.  You think Finley is bad. LOOK AT HER!  THAT is a bad card.

But I didn't dust her.  Why? I didn't have anything in particular to craft that I needed the 1600 dust for.  Even when I ran out of dust, I had multiples and smaller cards I could dust first, and eventually I got to where I really didn't NEED any other card. i COULD'VE had more cards, but I had a few decks to play with already so there wasn't something I desperately needd, so I kept her. I even tried to use her in a deck..whichi failed.

At around Rumble I eventually wanted to make a hunter deck and finally FINALLY I needed 1600 dust for a legendary.  So then I dusted her, crafted the card, and...nothing bad happened. I didn't 'lose value'. I didn't get caught by the Blizzard Cops.  I didn't die.  The card didn't disappear.

I had the card until I needed another card, so I dusted the card when I needed the card.  I would've gained nothing by dusting it during Boomsday.

Meanwhile, I BET you a lot of folks dusted Luna's Pocket Galaxy.  The same one that got buffed later into a tier S deck, then got nerfed to dust for full value.  And I BET a lot of people dusted it because it was 'worthless' back in Boomsday.  And I BET a lot of folks ended up with 400 dust they either let sit doing nothing or crafted a card they ended up not using a few weeks later.

While others kept it because "I can always dust it later", then got a lot of wins with a strong deck, then got their full dust at this time.  And they did it because they probably dusted Hadronox during Frozen Throne and suffered for it when it went 5 star in Witchwood.

Dust can never be buffed.  Dust can never be buffed then nerfed. Dust can never find a card that'll make it utterly powerful.  Dust can't be played around with for luls.  Dust can only be used to make cards.

Bad Cards can be buffed.  Bad cards can be buffed then nerfed.  Bad cards can be made powerful due to future cards.  Bad cards can be played for the luls.  Bad Cards can still be used to make new cards.

    The point (aka TL:DR SUMMARY!)

    1. If you immediately know what card you are going to craft that will be VERY useful to you and you KNOW it'll last a long time then.. yes, dust it now and craft.

    2. Unless your situation qualifies for #1 there's NO reason to dust a card no matter how bad, or if it's golden, or if it's a duplicate.  dust sitting in your bank is never more useful than a card worth the same price.

3.There is no 3.  Keep the card until you KNOW what card you want, THEN dust it to craft that card.

Why trade with minions when you can face for...billions?
