Mech Hunter in standard after rotation?

Submitted 5 years, 8 months ago by

Hi there,

there's a standard version of mech hunter which already shows some promise in the current meta:

It won't lose much with the rotation and I'm planning to give it a real try on ladder once the new expansion hits. This deck snowballs pretty fast and has quite some burst potential even if you lose the board several times. As usual with hunter, draw is an issue which can at least partially be solved with Cybertech Chip. As long as mass silence is not a thing, I'm very optimistic to make this work!

What do you think? Any ideas how to further improve the deck?

I think we will have to see what cards r gonna be added to the mix. While i like mechs a lot, midrange approach just doesnt seem to cut it atm. There is some potential for a surprise burst, but not that big. Rotation of DK Rexxar will def weaken all hunter decks, so there will have to be something else to give you that extra power. Would all the bombs be enough? Hard to say.

You might want to add Missile Launcher for the ultimate combo with Venomizer, or just as a board clear in general (can also kill off bombs in two turns). I know it might be kinda slow for the deck, just a thought :)

One great thing about the upcoming rotation is that many of the most powerful decks in Standard will be hit.

Thus, cooler but less powerful decks currently, such as Mech Hunter, might actually see some play if they keep the power level standard as the sets released in the Year of the Raven!

Thanks for the recommendation of Missile Launcher, Sinti. I haven't put it in on purpose so far, because it's to slow (as you already stated). But the rotation of Void Ripper really worries me, since it not only triggers the bombs, but also has quite some surprise burst potential (ignored magnetized Framebots can easily reach 8-10 hp). Missile Launcher could help with the bombs, while I also considered Crazed Alchemist... which is cheaper, but gets off only one bomb. Meh, we probably really should wait for more new cards, as Sylicas suggested.

I just had an idea. The deck in its current form only has 3 cards costing more than 5 mana and heavily relys on cheap cards and their synergies. Soooo.... what do you think about adding Mojomaster Zihi?

Just wanted to come back to a) state “I told you so” and b) celebrate FIRST TIME LEGEND with mech hunter 🎉

Sinti was right after all, of course Missile Launcher is a key card. What helped me make the last few steps was teching in one copy each of Explosive TrapUnleash the Hounds and Bronze Gatekeeper. Good luck to everyone out there climbing with any sort of mech hunter

Grats on your legend achievement there!

How do pepople feel about mech hunter after the buffs that are coming today? I mean Nechromechanic and the new Snip Snap make a good addition to some deathrattle based mech hunters out there? I think "Mechrattle" will be my first try after the buffs come alive!

I'm a decent guy. Sometimes my writings don't reflect that though!

The amount of face damage Necromechanic + Goblin Bomb will do will be insane. Plus, SN1P-SN4P will make it easier for you to stick a Mech on board to magnetize with.

    Well it's over

Just a couple things on my mind here:

1 - I'm afraid that the link you posted (with the hearthstation.com url) doesn't seem to work - for me, atl east. Maybe it does for others and I'm just unlucky? I don't know. Foruntaltey the one at the bottom of your post does, but I was almost tricked into assuming it was just not working until I noticed others giving feedback on the deck, so I wondered why I couldn't see it. :-P

2 - I wondered why this deck is called Boom Hunter when it doesn't seem to use Flark's Boom-Zooka or any Dr Boom-based card?
It seems more like a standard Bomb Hunter deck? Just a little confused :-)

I know it's just a name, and probably sounds like a silly thing to worry about - but I was curious. :-P

Thanks for your message! The deck was originally posted when Out Of Cards was running under the Hearthstation flag. Flux took the site offline shortly before rotation and came back with a new URL so the old link didn't work anymore.

The original list contained Boommaster Flark and my favorite combo was to play him on turn 7 and follow up with Necromechanic and Void Ripper on 8 (that's 16 face damage from the bombs!). To be honest though, "Boom Hunter" just had a better ring to my ears than "Bomb Hunter".

In the end this thread and the guide to the deck are a relic from pre-rotation, when it was already doing alright but never got popular because of the even/odd decks and KofT and K&C powerhouses. I only took the time to edit the list to the one which took me to legend for the very first time last season because I wanted to conserve it without spending a deck slot. I guess there should be enough guides for Mech Hunter out there, so that part of it largely stayed as I posted it pre-rotation.

Can we edit titles? Maybe this can be renamed "Mech Hunter after Buffs."

So right now, it appears we have 3 types of Mech Hunter
    - Bomb
    - Oblivitron Deathrattle (w/ Zul'jin)
    - Midrange Deathrattle

I liked Bomb Hunter because it was the only deck that played "charge" anymore. But, as anyone who watched Silvername in GM league last week knows, it's a pretty weak deck if it's disrupted the slightest bit.

Oblivitron Deathrattle is one of my favorite decks of the expansion, but it just can't make it through the early game with much consistency.

The new Midrange Deathrattle Hunter seems like an excellent marriage of the two. All of the fast starts of Bomb Hunter, but better - you're going wide with 1/1's instead of 0/2's. And late game in the form of Whelp+Nine Lives. It also has more draw than Bomb Hunter thanks to Nine Lives, which isn't insignificant. It's a mindless deck, but I'm really liking it at the moment.

(FWIW, Vicious Syndicate is currently showing that Hunter has the highest winrate at legend, and I believe it's this deck.)

    Hey,

the thread is a relic from before rotation, the original post is early april. I suggest we just open a new one and let this one die in peace 😉

I like your ideas though. Do you think Oblivitron could be run in your list, or is it to slow? I really wanted to try the card but didn’t find the time as of now

Oh, I know it was older. That's why I was curious if we could just change the title and keep it going here.

I think in that particular deck, oblivitron is too slow. That deck is actually a very midrange deck, whereas oblivitron, to me, feels like it needs Zul'jin to feel worthwhile, and therefore a more specific pool of deathrattles.

that combo is pretty much needed for bomb finishers if you don't run mossy horror. I've taken to running both now as if you can get a lot of bombs on board for turn 9, you can play both necro and horror on turn 10 for a huge amount of face damage. I'm still getting used to bomb hunter though and have thrown a few games by playing flark and missile launcher, but not having the poison to pop the bombs in one turn. The two turn count down of regular launcher isn't enough a lot of the time.

FWIW, this has been working pretty great for me over the last two days thanks to the impact Masters' Tour Vegas has had on the metagame.

It looks to feast on the plethora of Warriors and Mages.
I would say it's better against Warrior than your standard bomb hunter but slightly worse against Mage.
A few spots are unsettled, IMO.

Galvanizer is nice so that you don't have to wait until turn 6 to play Mechanical Whelp, but I could see playing something else in it's place.
And Replicating Menace isn't the world's greatest card, but it's nice to be able to have a sticky board for various magnetic effects and to be able to go wide against Druid.

I think Tracking should probably be in here too, since we aren't looking to play the long game against anyone except warrior.
