so yeah, this seems like a straight up waste of the Legendary Neutral slot.
Sure there might be some more support coming, but overall I just have no idea how this would ever be playable. Maybe there'll be some way to activate "start of turn" effects immediately but overall this just seems garbage.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
If it does not have rush when it revives it become a bit of usless.
You play it. Then your oponent kills it and not the egg.
When it comes back you can not attack as it got summoned at the begining of the turn....
If it has rush when it comes it can be quite of a good card, or does not have summmonig sickness and can even go face then it can be quite broken in a quick agro elemental mage.
Maybe you could try it in Quest-Paladin? But, even if you trigger the Deathrattle multiple Times, it's probably just mediocre at best.
If you wanna play Waxadred, just play Waxadred.

Interesting with the new Cube-esque legendary.
Not a card for every deck, but could have some role in something super slow or grindy.
Being a neutral is actually a big benefit for this guy, because it gives him more opportunities to find some role.
1/5 easily, just a bad card.
Edit: I will elaborate: it will be easily removed most of the time 3 hp is really nothing to deal with on turn 3, and then deal other 3 that can't retaliate?
I was expecting no less from year of the Phoenix - maybe more ... - but definitely no less
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Win more card. Not impressed by the stats.

EU Legend: S52 (ZooHeal Lock); S76 (Highlander Hunter);
Hey look, a average Fire Hawk but far more expensive.
*Cough cough* ... Silence. GG
For classes without silence, this is a slow game-ender. If a Control Warrior became oppressively good, I would bet that some decks might run this card against it... or maybe that's my GvG brain thinking, but still - I don't think we can write off any kind of infinite value.
Plus, think of the meme decks we can pull off!
Better call Thrall!
The first card I see from this set that I'd actually just call bad. Such a shame.
It's fine I guess, doesn't seem to amazing, but who knows
This card has some synnergies with Teron Gorefiend, but it's probably not good enough to see play. However, the flavor of this card is great.
Good flavor, and pretty art, but goodness me is this weak. Imagine if they changed both parts to 4 Health instead.
“Golly bob howdy, I am undead!” - Wretched Tiller
Its bad because all your opponent has to do is deal 6 damage and it's dead. Sure it is a bit harder to kill than some other cards, but it isn't that much harder to kill than say, [Hearthstone Card (glass knight) Not Found] or Cobalt Guardian. It is just too easy for your opponent to deal with a 0/3. And even if it does survive, it doesn't have rush or anything so you would have to wait a whole nother turn before you even get to attack with it.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Even from a Wild, meme based viewpoint, I don't see where this fits. Both Hunter and Rogue can abuse the deathrattle, but it's not really more valuable than doing so with Devilsaur Egg, or for Rogue, Waxadred. Mage and Shaman could value the tag, but there are better 5 mana elementals. Shaman could also abuse the deathrattle. Warlock could...use it as a Shadowflame target I guess? 9 mana clear the board and ask questions about removing the egg? Druid, Warrior, Paladin and Priest have no use I can think of for it.
If the Egg was a deathrattle, it would be playable, at very least as a second Waxadred style card for a Rogue DR deck, but in it's current form? It's just bad.
Reverse Egg. Absolutely horrible. Maybe Ress priest might want this? Cant imagine any other deck.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
''Week #679: Still no mount...''
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Waited until we got every card to comment on this (had forgoten about this card) but I cant really see how this will work. I feel like Pyros is much better in everyway as a Phoenix. This thing is not worth it and will just die. If it went dormant for 2 turns, had something similar to Waxadred going on or the ashes had more HP I would see it with other eyes though.
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
So at this point I'm really just wondering what the actual hell they were thinking with this? This is quite possibly one of the worst Legendaries ever printed and there's absolutely no support that would make this viable in any way.
Alarm-o-Bot is better buildaround than this.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Sadly this will often be randomly created by elemental effects.
That is not a good card! 6 mana for an easily destroyed minion, and a more easily destroyed ashes, that's a no for me.
Ooof, probably the worst legendary out of the AoO set :( considering how crazy a mount this was to get in WoW during Burning Crusade, I'd expect Blizz to at least make the egg dormant, or would that be too OP?
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
garbage card..easily removed and the ash is even easier to remove..unless this has some addon effects otherwise its pretty trash
Worst card in the set, even worse than Totemic Reflection. Everybody is hoping they won't open this trash on release day. Shame though, the mount is dope as hell.
Hs is not magic or other card game where you cant chose where the minion will attack. So Al'ar is probably garbage unless some deck can summon 7 or some crazy combo like that
The flavor is spot on for the lore. But the card is pretty terrible sadly. A sad waste for such an iconic character.
Probably too weak in both shapes. It’s a shame, i like the concept.
...? In terms of actually using this card, I can only think of deliberately triggering the deathrattle to do something that amounts to making nithogg eggs where the summons don't have rush. Very poor card.
This post is discussing the wild format.
Unlike cards like Waxdred or The plant from Ungoro this is easy to remove and easy to make sure it doesn't come back since the ashed have a measily 3 health.
It's saving grace is the elemental tag, which might lend itself to some elemental deck list
Terrible, just...terrible. Don't think I have anything unique to add, in terms of commentary; it's just that bad.
this is the standard meme card along with [Hearthstone Card (Magtheridon/card] because they can kill the ashes and no more minion if you get this in a pack you should probably just dust it just my advice
) Not Found]TOTAL CORRUPTION
TOTAL POWAAAAAAA
Another missed opportunity. Especially release of Dormant mechanic. a 7/3 minion isn't that game-breaking in my opinion so egg should have been dormant for 2 turns instead of start of your turn.
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
Need some combo to make it worthwhile, otherwise it's a no from me.
It's too much work for too little payoff.
Sure, neutral resurrection is pretty valuable as an effect. Kel'Thuzad has it, and we don't see it terribly often. But the egg is terribly vulnerable after Al'Ar dies, and it's hard to proc the deathrattle multiple times, especially as Al'Ar has to die first for it to be resurrected...
I just don't see it working terribly well.
Way too likely to just die to see play, even in a really slow deck.
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
Not the strongest, but can become a recurring threat if left unchecked by the opponent.
I don't know what they drank designing this. Trash.
I never apologize… I’m sorry but that’s the way I am.
So, have anyone figured out a use for this card? I opened her on launch and have no idea if there's any way at all I can play her. That 3 health is an insult for such a cool concept. Compared to Waxadred it's worse in every single way.
From my experience Al'ar is best when you are ahead, or at least when your opponent doesn't have any minions, so they cannot just use a minion to kill off the ashes for free. It then serves the role of something threatening but also annoying to get rid of, which can be useful. Now I'm not saying it is a great card in most games even if you have a deck that suits the card, but equally don't underestimate how useful it is to use up 2x 3 damage removal.
As for the comparison to Waxadred, keep in mind there's tools for 9 other classes to use so being worse in rogue doesn't rule out uses elsewhere. The other deathrattle classes (hunter and priest) in particular can have some fun mutliplying Al'ar or the ashes.
You can also consider using both Waxadred and Al'ar in the same deck, which will at least give you a feel for when Al'ar is actually stronger than the dragon. Even just on paper 2x3 > 5, so she can be tougher to remove in the first place, and she comes back quicker so there will be a few times when she's better.
I have been playing with this in a Deathrattle Priest and it's perfectly fine. The card is really slow and should never be played on curve (unless you are ahead). But combining it with Priest's many copying effects works really well. Grave Rune is really strong on Al'ar. Psyche Split and Shadowy Figure are fine as well. It won some games but even when my opponents managed to completely get rid of it they still had to waste quite a few attacks and spells on it. It's annoying. Just like Priest.
Al'ar is a niche card. It exists for very specific decks and does well in those (but sucks everywhere else). As long as there are synergies available, you can make good use of it. It's fun as well. It's similar to Shu'ma. That card also looked awful but it found a spot in Quest Hunter and proved its viability as a niche card for token decks.
"True mastery takes dedication."
Regis posted a fun looking priest deck ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMBhdcphedg ) and Dekkster did quest Paladin ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4q3X5SecU0 ), but I wouldn't consider either competitive.
I agree--they definitely misfired on this card. Don't feel too sorry for yourself for opening her, though--there are a LOT of bad legendaries in this set. Myself, I've opened Megtherdon, Reliquary of Souls, and Bulwark so far.
