Sometimes I can't block it just skips it with no indication why.

Playing against Swain who just upgraded and stunned my max unit. I still have 4 other units, one of which got stunned with the 1-cost spell. then none of my other three heroes was allowed to block the swain plus ferocious enemy (I had a 5-5 Tough Demacian Cavalry for ferocious) and then had small 2-2 & 2-3 units to block. This is like the 4th time this has happened - this one & another were expedition games too!

I am not going to play the guessing game, if it happens screenshot it.
if your units are stunned the blocking phase is skipped, swain probably stunned more than 1 unit.
Yeah you need to screen cap the board state. We can't guess otherwise. There's a million reason why you couldn't block.
My suggestion: Turn off auto-skip
It's a huge information dump when your opponent sees the game instantly skip your turn, they immediately know nothing currently in your hand can stop another attack, and in this case, you yourself are not given enough time to realize why you couldn't block and learn from that.
But that's my opinion :/ I'm constantly spamming the spacebar so I'm not taking too much time, but I can see why people wouldn't like anyone having autoskip off if it increases game time.
But otherwise, there's not enough information here to know why the game skipped you, but if auto-skip IS already off then it's definitely a bug.
Swain has fearsome, so he can only be blocked by enemies with three or more power. If you only had a 2/2 and 2/3 to block with then you have a answer.
Actually having Auto-Skip can be a great deceiving tool too. If you have a burst/fast spell but click the pass button fast enough, to your opponent it will look like you don't have anything to play in response to his stuff.
I'll boop you
