Use for Exotic Mountseller?

Submitted 5 years, 5 months ago by

So today I was doing the random deckbuilding challenge and I ended up landing on Exotic Mountseller. While yes, I ended up building a deck that included two copies of her, I never really felt like the card did anything too useful in it.

Has anyone found her a home anywhere?

Some sort of cyclone mage variant, maybe? Span a bunch of cheap spells and fill your board.

May all your legendaries be golden.

I strived to stay away from mage simply because of how much better Vex Crow is at doing what she does there.

Other than in a weird budget Tempo Mage list, in my experience, I have found no use other than 20 dust.

jkjk, I really think it has some usage in a Budget Cyclone Tempo Mage list that goes into the late game. I think it could replace Sea Giant as a swarmy option, especially against decks with little AoE.

After seeing this post, I thought I'd have a play around with her, and found she works quite well in a Tempo/Miracle style rogue build. It gives you another option if you're facing a class that lacks strong AoE's , especially since people don't expect Rogue to build a wide board. I can't imagine it would work as well in standard, but in Wild, with the coin generators, you can go from 0 to 7 minions on turn 7 with a little preparation. I wouldn't say it's an optimal strategy, but you can pick up wins just by making an unexpected move, especially when people don't value AoE's highly once they know you're not running an Aggro build with Rogue.

I imagine a Lyra/Dragon Soul priest deck could work in a similar way.

The only place I could think of Exotic Mountseller could be Mage. A bunch of cheap spells are proven to be good use of her. I made a Reno Mage variant, seen here:

What you need to do to utilize her are explained below:

    1. Play Celestial Emissary+Blast Wave combo to generate spells.
    2. Then, discount these spells with Leyline Manipulator or Emperor Thaurissan.
    3. Finally, play Exotic Mountseller and discounted spells to spam an overgrowing army of 3-Mana Beasts.

Funny, I was expecting some unknown card with some insane mechanic that would be impossible to figure out.  But no it's the card I've been using for a while already.

It's a 'big shaman' deck based around Muckmorpherand [Hearthstone Card (Eureka) Not Found].  The win condition is to drop threats that can't be ignored too often to be stopped.

Most of the early game is carried on controlling the board via Totemic and Hagetha's Sceme.  You are also free to cast Feral Spirits and Lightning Storm as needed as your key turns are at 5 and both spells are 3 mana.

The first phase lies in hunting for Mucks and Eureka to drop threats down early.  You don't need them to stick, but it's great if they can.  Many decks are slow so they'll actually let you start the pain at 7 or 8 mana letting you combine them with ancestral/Big Bad voodoo.  But usually you'll use them to grab tempo then maintain it enough for the late game when you can start dropping them normally.

    The threats:

Exotic Mountseller: You have a lot of spells so Exotic throwing random 3 drop beasts means a very fast fill up of minions.  She's also a 5/8 so honestly she can be a doomsday card by herself.

Big Bad Archmage: Big Bad's 6 drops are generally VERY nasty along with him being a 6/6 on his own.  The nice thing is that they can be put down solo, meaning your opponent will be full board clearing your individual cards.

Al'Akir the Windlord:  He doesn't stick well but 6 damage charge with divine shield is pretty damaging.

Walking Fountain: He's more defense than offense but 8 health out of the gate, the ability to kill multiple creatures at once, and each turn can throw 8 damage to the face.

The win condition comes from the fact that you have A LOT of these big boys coming.  2 Mucks turning into one of them, 2 Eureka's summoning copies of them, The minions themselves, 2 Ancestral Spirits to resummon, and two Big Bad voodoos to make 2 more threats as all of these guys are 7+.

That's 14 threats, many of them generating more threats on top and all can technically solo.  You also get interesting interactions like Mountseller adding more threats while you Voodoo/Spirit her or Walking fountain+Spirit letting you kill 2 big boys or 4 midsized targets while gaining 16 health.

So yeah, Mountseller works very well here.

Why trade with minions when you can face for...billions?

Muck Shaman has realyl good use for her.
You can often get Muck to copy her, and then spin off a number of cheap spells etc.

It definitely doesn't work as well in Hunter, but maybe there's a way to fit it in the current Secret shell as an alternate late-game option before you Zul'jin?

Personally, I've been having a lot of fun meming it up in Casual with a Mountseller + Arcane Fletcher deck.  While I uploaded the deck in maximal meme form, the write-up suggests a couple tweaks for making it more competitive (e.g. sub one Toxmonger for a Dire Frenzy).  However, I don't think any version will be stronger than the decks suggested previously...

I have seen a couple of big shamans using it along side some smaller spells to use with spirit of the frog. it is not the most optimal way to build a big shaman, but it is not a bad way to get some use for exotic mountseller.

I found it useful in Wild Shaman decks for Evolve and Thrall, Deathseer

Has anyone tried her out in a Miracle Druid? Loads of cheap spells and combined with something Mecha'thun or even Chef Nomi it might be a good addition? Play Exotic Mountseller Next turn drop a Gadgetzan Auctioneer play a load of cheap spells and profit?

I mean, if you are playing in Wild it might be even better. Play Emperor Thaurissan when you have Loatheb and Chef Nomi in hand and you can play Nomi after dropping Loatheb for extra protection against board clears.

And that's after spamming a load of 3 Mana Beasts during your Miracle Turns.

I might have a go at that actually, 🤔

Cocked, locked and ready to rock...
