Competition Theme: Written In The Cards
We've created a lot of cards - it's time to let the cards do the creating for once!
- You must create a card which generates a unique token
- Summoning, adding to hand, shuffling into your deck - these all count!
- The token cannot be one that already exists
- No Lackeys, no Dream Cards, no Golden Monkeys and certainly no collectible cards
- Some examples include Elise Starseeker, Deathstalker Rexxar and Deck of Wonders
Congratulations to Hearthcards on their 10 million card milestone! Here's to 10 million more!
As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

Welcome to the site!
Do we need to explain what the token does in the original card?
I'll boop you
No, you can just post the token with the original card.
If you want to. The provided example of Elise doesn't actually do that, so I would say you're fine without.
I'm trying to add to the Libram archetype by creating the "ultimate" end-game Libram, but I'm not sold on it right now. The archetype lacks an exit-strategy besides simply outlasting one's opponent, and the creation of a strong Immune minion might help: it creates a ticking-clock against certain decks that cannot deal with the minion. I made Libram of Courage cost 15 so you actually had to invest in the other Libram-reducers, so people could not run Yrel by herself and get away with it. Might not be the best idea; let me know what you think.
Here is my first idea for the competition. It may be a bit complicated and it has multiple tokens so I may not submit it.
There are 3 Contracts, and she will give you one depending on your faction. They all have big upsides that helps that faction, but they also have big downsides to negate part of the upside. So I was thinking for the Grimy Goons she could give all minions in your hand +3/+3 but then destroy a random minion in your hand. For Jade Lotus she could give all of your Jade Golems +3/+3 but then destroy the next Jade Golem you summon. And for the Kabal she would add 3 potions to your hand but then counter the next spell you cast.
I am not 100% sure on the balance or numbers, I don't even have a name for the card (Shady Dealer has already been taken). I really just want to see if this concept works.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I like the idea of making a dark bargain - I like the Grimy Goons one in particular - but when I think of "contracts" I think of Unidentified Contract first. Might just be me, but it could be a problem.
Is it OP or OK? Difficult to balance stats...
Simple concept that fits the stealth theme that rogue got this expansion.
I'll boop you
Some feedback:
linkblade91: Love the idea, but permanent Immunity is a little iffy. There are very few ways to deal with them at the moment (The Amazing Reno and Twisting Nether are the main ones). I'd just give it Immune while attacking.
KANSAS: Interesting idea, but you're going to have problems with uploading tokens. Also, what about Demon Hunter?
R: This looks good, but there could be some nutty combos with Defile. Otherwise, nice concept.
BasilAnguis: I'm really against giving something permanent Stealth. Put this on something like an Emperor Thaurissan and you have an infinite value generator. 'Stealth for 1 turn' is plenty.
I find Token generating themes especially difficult because I struggle to find matching art. Here's what I found:
Submitting legendaries (and highlander at that) usually doesn't get you far, but I have no better idea for the moment. I'd be grateful for feedback and will provide my thoughts on your cards later.
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

usually i’m too much of a lazy bum to give feedback, but given the occasion i’ll try my best. here’s my card btw (does the submission program allow 4 tokens?)
“refresh” basically means “reset your deck to what it was at the start of the game”
feedback:
KANSAS - not enough for formatting/flavor star yet (needs name/token art), not sure on the balancing star, but +1 star for the neat idea. overall 3-4/5, 3-5/5 after name and arts
R - no star for formatting/flavor (I think it should be “would” instead of “must”), no star for balance (dealing 4 damage, taking no damage back and summoning a 3/1 rush minion seems op) and +1 star on idea. overall 3/5, 4/5 after formatting change
BasilAnguis - +1 star for formatting/flavor, +1 star for balance, +1 star for the idea (although i think it would be better if dagger wasn’t just ashtongue slayer’s effect) overall 5/5
anchorm4n - +1 star for formatting flavor, not sure on the star for balancing (might be too difficult for dh to go highlander making this useless, but if it’s relatively easy this can be very op) and no star for idea, because it’s honestly pretty boring as far as highlander effects go. overall 3-4/5

Someone pointed out that my card doesn't do anything for Demon Hunter. So I am going to scrap that idea and make a new card.

I think 3 might be the maximum for tokens, but I'm not completely sure.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I made it stealth for only 1 turn and reduced the cost and power of the cards.

Feedback
And OH BOY have I gone all out with this one.
Slaith is a way to represent humanoids transforming into dragons in gameplay. His dragon form keeps the rarity gem as it's technically the "same" card, in a similar vein to the Spellstones or the "worgen" cards from The Witchwood which swap stats in turn they're in your hand.
Aria's dormant condition is almost certainly not perfect, and the card is most likely horribly unbalanced, but that's where I come to you.
The first idea I had. Any feedback?
I think you got the rarities mixed up. It looks like Bhouzu is supposed to be the token, and Dark Archivist is supposed to be the collectible card.
Aside from that, it looks super difficult since Warlock doesn't have many ways to copy things.
First idea that came to my mind:
Fits in with the bounce style of Rogue and also adds value when bounced. Worse case scenario, it's a cheaper Assassinate or Vilebrood Skitterer. Best case scenario, it's a source of board resets as the token does hit all minions. Thoughts are appreciated.
I decided to make "The Scarecrow" from the Monster Hunt solo content. The idea behind him would be to sacrifice some of your weaker minions to get rid of enemy minions, and then cast "Scythe" to destroy your opponent's remaining high health minions. You can also drop him on turn 6 and sacrifice your board for a board clear on the next round.
It works somewhat similarly to "Plague of Flames" but due to the whole combo being 9 Mana and not requiring you to destroy all of your minions, I think it has significant differences.
Feedback for 1st page:
@Linkblade91
I feel like Yriel's Token Spell leads to somewhat unfun games, since it essentially provides infinite damage for the rest of the game. I think if the token Spell were something more interesting that can close out games quickly it would be more interesting. Alternatively, you could do something like make Yriel something like "Start of Game: Shuffle 5 copies of 'Libram of XYZ' into your deck" and make "Libram of XYZ" a Libram that is on a powerlevel equal to most other Librams.
@R
I don't like White King. It will almost always be a 5 Mana 4/4 since the opponent will just trade with it, but when not dealt with it becomes a 5 Mana 4/4 with divine shield that deals 3 damage. A version of this design that I think would work would be to make him a 5 Mana 3/4 with Divine Shield and "When I lose Divine Shield, summon a 3/1 Pawn with Rush". That way he would always summon the Pawn.
@BasilAnguis
Nice card! The only problem I see is that the new "Dagger" isn't very impactful. It is essentially a worse "Give a minion Divine Shield and +1 Attack." I'd recommend maybe reverting Dagger to the old effect of "Give a minion +3 Attack and Immune this turn" to make it more impactful and unique.
@Bigcums
Dark Archivist seems really weak since there doesn't seem to be a way to really get his effect off. I'd recommend doing something to make him revive himself, such as "Deathrattle: Return this to your hand. If this has died 7 times, add 'Bhuzu the Blind God' to your hand instead." Aternatively, you could make him something like a 2 Mana 2/2 with Echo so that you don't have to copy him as many times.
@Cg8889
I think it may be a bit too good, since it's essentially a 4 Mana Assassinate with an upside. I think you could up her cost to 5 and maybe change her effect to "After this is returned to your hand, put 'Poisonous Cloud' on top of your deck".

Oh my, I'm sorry! You shouldn't hide your cards behind spoilers, even if it was with good intentions ;-)
I don't like Temporal Loop as an idea, sorry. Slaith looks very interesting, but it scares me. Rogue has lots of possibilities to trigger deathrattles plus [Hearthstone Card (Anka the buried) Not Found]... This could get out of hand even though the condition looks reasonable. I'm in a hurry and can't look up similar cards right now, but both cards having the same name feels strange. Aria is my favorite of the bunch, even though it looks pretty OP, too. With one Incanter's Flow hitting a Fireball, you could play both on turn 10 for 13 damage... I'd like to suggest "When revived, transfrom." for the first card. Maybe you could find a pile of ashes for the second one?

Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres, hpmor.com
Both Slaith cards have the same name because they're in essence, the "same" card, basically trying to communicate that the first card is his humanoid form, and then the second card is him transforming into his dragon form.
Think of it like Pyros, or the worgen cards from The Witchwood which swap their stats while in your hand.
Forgot to submit last week. So here's my second attempt at participating in the competition:
4 mana 7/7! Great value!
About the art, i really couldn't find any howling white wolf. Balance: Not sure about the lifesteal, but it otherwise seemed to weak without. At 3 mana it would be too strong. Supposed to make beast/deathrattle hunter more viable for control games.
Also:
Anti aggro tool for hunters. Trap does not trigger when your opponent doesn't summon any minions.
Any feedback is welcome!
In the case of both of your cards, they shouldn't use the Classic watermark since they both use Lifesteal, which is a post-launch mechanic.
Frost Wolf Cub seems alright compared to Twilight Summoner, and Pit Trap is okay although is has grammar errors and there are visible words at the bottom of the art, detracting from the quality slightly.
Ah yes, good call. Thanks! Will adjust the water mark.
Pit trap grammar errors are 'enemies' (should be 'enemy's', right?), but you said errors (plural). I can't find any other?
If i had to submit one, which one do you prefer?
Actually, it should be "opponent's". The other grammatical error is that "trap" in the card name is supposed to start with a capital T as it's part of a proper name.
I like Frost Wolf Cub the best. On the base card, the Deathrattle should also have quotation marks around it, so it reads like this:
Deathrattle: Summon a 2/2 Wolf with "Deathrattle: Summon a 4/4 Wolf with Lifesteal".
I incorporated everyone's feedback into my Yrel, creating something almost completely different to remove the Immunity:
At the start of the game she shuffles 3 copies of Libram of Courage into your deck, giving you access to card draw the archetype desperately needs. In addition - because every Libram has two effects on it, more-or-less - Yrel's courage grows with each use, making her stronger. Build up a big threat and watch her drop the hammer!
Any Start of Game effect without a condition immediately has potential to be somewhat dangerous (unless it's Prince Malchezaar), so I'm not sure how this would play out.
EDIT: Actually this might not be so good since it essentially dilutes your deck with three overcosted Arcane Intellects which only get good once you reduce their Cost enough.
Feedback! Took longer than I planned 'cause I had to leave the house in the middle of typing this up:
Ekkeh - I think the Frost Wolves are too slow to see much play, unfortunately, although I do like it more than Pit Trap.
Cursed Parrot - I think the autocast of all other Scythes is very interesting, creating that fantasy of reaping your opponents like a true monster. I wonder if giving everyone access to destruction effects is a good idea, but as you noted the overall combo is quite expensive. All-in-all, I like it.
Cg8889 - Poisonous on an AoE is very dangerous, especially for a class that traditionally lacks board clears. Even with the condition that you have to play it then bounce it (thus wasting the effort/mana), I still think it's too good.
bigcums - As Demon noted you have the rarity gems backwards. And as he also said, this is tremendously difficult to pull off, to the point where I don't think anyone would bother. How would the Warlock copy it enough times? I like the underlying idea; I just think it needs some tuning.
BasilAnguis - Nice reference to Cloak & Dagger, if that was intentional :D Giving permanent Stealth is a scary idea, so I approve of the changes you made all-around. I think you're good-to-go!
KANSAS - I think the card is fine, if a little plain. One downside I see of including it in an Enrage/self-harm deck is that you can/would readily clear out your own Goblin Guards with Whirlwind, Awaken! and the like. Might not be a big issue, though.
DestroyerR - Your card has way too many tokens, unfortunately.
anchorm4n - I like it. The one thing I would consider is knocking the Queen down to 8-mana, so you can combo Feast of Souls with the Naga Warriors on turn-10. Would be a great late-game hand refill. Just a thought; I like it as-is already.
R - The card should say "Whenever this would receive…" which might in turn make the card too wordy - there's an unspoken rule that Hearthstone cards cannot exceed four lines of text. Disregarding that for the moment, I feel like the card might be too abusive with the right clearing cards; namely Defile.
Edit: Shit I forgot Demonxz95 >_> Sorry!
Crystal Phoenix - One concern I have is-that you can create a paradox wherein you play the Phoenix, use the Temporal Loop on the same turn, and now you've done/learned various things without having spent the Loop card (because the Phoenix is back in your hand). You could do this "for free" every time you wanted to check for Secrets or whatever.
Slaith - I like the transformation effect, but every Deathrattle seems like too much, if you get to benefit from opposing Deathrattles. The 4/7/7 meme is real, though.
Aria - Remove the final Deathrattle and I think you've got something. Yeah I know that removes the phoenix "rising from the ashes" bit, but the card is just too powerful otherwise. If you want to leave it as a 7/7/7, it's that or take a hammer to the Spell Damage.
All-in-all, I think I like Slaith the most.
Since quite a few people skipped over me on page 1, I updated my post there.
I'm pretty sure the Crystal Phoenix incident only applies on the very first turn you play the card, which honestly doesn't sound like that big of a deal to me. I like your thoughts about it though, that's using your noggin! I guess I should mention that Temporal Loop cards don't return to your hand if they were there when the turn starts.
Aria yeah, I can see some rebalancing done. Question though: Is the dormant condition good?
Minions count, so it seems fine. One well-timed Flamestrike and you're back in the game. '20' might be too much, perhaps, but what're you gonna do: drop it to 17 or 18 or some less-elegant number? No lol.
Is this better?
I think so, yeah. You should be good to go at this point: only thing that needs fixing is the comma in the second sentence (it's in the wrong place).
I decided to make another card since I don't really like my current card. How does this one look?
If people like it I will make tokens.
*edit* I just realized I forgot the "r" in "your". But other than that what do you think?
Carrion, my wayward grub.
i decided to scrap my other idea because of the token limit. what about this one?
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
I really like it. But I don't think you need the text on the Carrot. You could just make them 2 mana spells and be fine. Also I think he should be a 3/3. 3 mana 2/3, even if it is immune for a turn, just feels really bad tempo wise. But I really like the Curse of Rafaam-like effect.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
A 1-mana 3/3 scared me at first-glance, but thinking about it some more I guess the card is a different brand of Flame Imp. +1 Health, but your opponent gets a minion instead of 3 damage to your own face. It might turn off those who have that same initial thought process, though.
Any thoughts on my updated Yrel?
I agree with KANSAS - I would remove the text, and bump him up to a 3/3.
I don’t know, seems very OP that way. Don’t forget you’re making your opponent waste Mana; a 3/3/3 that read “your opponent has 4 less Mana next turn” would certainly be considered OP, and so would a 3/3/3 that did the same thing but was Immune for more than a turn and had the 4 Mana split into 2 and 2
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
Sorry, I should have specified that I don't agree with making them cost 2-apiece. I think costing 1 without the complicating text would be fine.
I really like it. The only thing that I would change, if I had to change anything, would be to make it target a friendly minion and give it +2/+2 instead of giving only Yrel +2/+2. Though I think it is fine as it is.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
More Feedback (I'm skipping those I think already submitted)
@Demonxyz95
I like the Crystal Phoenix, it synergizes with random effects and the hand mage deck. The only change I would make would be to change the Temporal Loops to add something like 5 seconds to the timer, so that the player who plays it isn't pressed for time as much.
@Linkblade91
I think Hoptallus is an interesting design, but I fail to see what options it opens up in terms of deckbuilding. The most obvious one I can see is some kind of Mill Rogue or Battlecry Shaman deck using Hoptallus, but I feel like those strategies would be kind of annoying if they were playable. Maybe you could change the carrots to cost more and reduce their cost at the end of each round that they're in your hand?
The reason the Temporal Loops don't refresh the timer is because otherwise it would be possible to stall the game indefinitely by playing Phoenix, then immediately playing Temporal Loop, and now the Phoenix would be back in your hand and you'd be able to generate other Temporal Loops by playing it over and over again.
That said, the animation would be long enough (using the same as the Toki Hero Power) to where you can't gain a net-positive in time with 5 seconds, so it might not be a worry.
This card is fantastic! You know what I think would make it more realistic for standard? Instead of summoning the highest attack minion with immune, maybe changing the immune to deathrattle: Give all your minions and summoned minions lifesteal. I feel like that isn't as strong as the immune, but has a crazy late game goal. What do you think?
Less than 24 hours to go! Submit while you can :D
Finalist voting is now up.
You also only have 24 hours left to post yourself as a card to get the Card Designer Enthusiast title. After the results of this competition, the window is gone.
Wow, the level of this comp is off the roof. Every single finalist is amazing.
Woo! Threw together my card 3 hours before the submission deadline and made the finals! Procrastination at it's finest!

Yeah. I've actually seen many cards use that art because the user who made it presumably didn't know that it was used art.
